In a remarkable act of class Coach McGuire, Texas Tech’s head coach, during his Monday press conference offered his thoughts and prayers to the Uva community and especially one Jacob Rodriguez. He transferred there from Uva and obviously knew those young men. He said their entire team has rallied around young Jacob who was shaken by the loss of former teammates. My oldest is a nutritionist for their football team and has gotten to know Jacob as they have a little bit in common and says he is a great young man. I have taken it upon myself to pass on our heartfelt thoughts and prayers on behalf of hoos everywhere to him.
Just terrible.

Amen Dragon. For outsiders like myself, people who go to UVa before knowing UVa, that University and even town changes your Life. The access and networks are unparalled in the country. Going back everyone welcomes you home as family not an outsider.
I took my 7 year olds down in August and did some special things like spending a day at JPJ and walking the lawn and seeing the new monument(s) and just general Grounds things. They were embraced everywhere matter of factly.
Also, they say Cville and specifically JPJ is the real Virginia. And they want to go back!

I’ve been struggling to put into words what I feel and I think @htraylor @BDragon have both shared their experiences so eloquently and while some of my specific experiences are different obviously, much of them are similar. Charlottesville is my happy place. Each of the tragedies over the past ten or so years have shook me. Charlottesville was always a place of happiness and joy. Looking back, it was probably one of my at least five best decisions ever to choose UVA over other schools.
And despite the fact that many of us get a bit angry and/or anxious and/or disappointed on those in-game forum threads, everyone on here supports each other and wants what’s best for UVA, Charlottesville, and each other despite most of us never having met in person (as an aside Fresh - it was great meeting you and the LRA team in person in Jersey last year - you all are the best but you still owe me a beer). Had to throw a little lightheartedness in there. But in all seriousness, we all have common ground in that we love the University, love the city, and have respect for each other. As Dragon said, “I have no doubt UVA and Charlottesville will do the right thing and pull together and support one another.” This LRA board already does that for many of us and believe it will spread across UVA and Charlottesville.

Mike Hollins is a hero.
I can’t link the interview his mom did, powerful as hell, he apparently went back in the bus to check on his brothers after being shot in the back.
Those poor young men.
