This is a good lesson for me. Bliss is looking at schools that won 3 of the last 6 nattys, but what sticks out about Miami is that they win a lot. C’mon Christian! I know for a fact there was cable and internet in Queens when you lived there…
We’re in it, that’s all you can ask for.
Good vibes, especially stuff about relationship with coaches and player development. Get the sense he’ll take all of his visits. Would like Virginia to be first in the next three. Set the tone.
Miami will be underwater before Bliss’ NBA career is over. And Charlottesville’s high elevation will keep uva resilient long after. Important stuff to consider
Also what will bliss do when all of the fans who attend Miami games are put in jail for securities fraud
This group of 4 teams makes me feel confident in the quality of player we are recruiting. Miami, Xavier, Villanova is a group of schools that are very solid, but not impossible to beat in a recruitment. Best of both worlds. I feel the same right now about Abraham(Marquette and Providence), and Kon(Wisconsin and Marquette).
the “drama” is in his belief that he has a quick path to the NBA and the likely frustration when he discovers the expectations Tony has for his players to earn playing time.
I’m sure he’s a great kid, but does anything think he’s going to get 25+ minutes a game from day one? And what happens when he gets 15 or less a game his first year?
For me, the drama has less to do with his and his fam’s expectations and more to do with your last question: what happens when the expectation doesn’t match the reality? But I think that’s a risk with every kid, not just kids who were good enough at a young age to have high expectations. And I don’t have any good way to predict whether Jarin and fam would react well or poorly as compared to the average kid.
I think your point is fair.
How is he going to find 25+ per game at uva, unc or bama next year? You can’t decide to reclass in June after all the 23s have committed and every school has reloaded with transfers and find significant mins at top programs like this, unless you’re a top alpha recruit.
Edit, I wasn’t sure if your question was about finding minutes at UVA, I think the same logic applies to every school he’s considering now. He’s inevitably going to be unhappy at any school he picks if he chooses to reclass.
In all honesty my focus was UVA due to how Tony manages first year minutes but your point could apply elsewhere.
He’s not. Which is why they are making a mistake, at least imo, if they are focusing on the 2024 NBA draft. 2025 is plausible. 2026 most likely
Of course, it is worth remembering that Bobi Klintman only played 20.5 mpg for Wake last year, only started 3 games, and he has decided to remain in the draft. While your point is well taken, the 25+ mpg standard is a bit arbitrary. There also remains the issue of finding even 20 mpg at Virginia for Stevenson. I imagine that would depend on whether he could usurp Groves predicted role on the team which is a huge unknown (in so many ways).
Which is kind of funny, really, and goes back to the scheduling point. If Stevenson had reclass’ed before we took Groves, he could have had the spot and a real chance at 20 mph. He might not have gotten it, but the chance was there. But he waited a month and now it’s not here or really anywhere.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say the opportunity isn’t there. Stevenson may be THAT good. Coach Bennett has said, “If they are good enough to play, they’ll play.” However, it is a really, seriously unknown bit as to whether Stevenson is better than Groves. By November, he may be or he may not be. It’s another crap shoot.

Also good Trent Perry highlights for the season
Kondalorian, this is the way
If we get Kon and Perry, does that count as us landing a floor general PG in the aggregate? Would love that combo+Abraham for 2024 if it comes to fruition.
