Professionally, certainly. It might be true at the college level as well, but I’ll admit I was assuming.

The sailing teams’ lack of diversity I’ve actually looked into, though. And as folks have noted, fencing teams are super diverse. One might think they’re all white, but the best fencing centers are in major cities which tend to be a lot more diverse than the US overall.

I bet there’s competitive “fencing” somewhere. Over the weekend I was unexpectedly introduced to the world of competitive charcuterie board designing, which was a surprise. Everything can be competitive once people start taking it seriously.

Edit - Turns out, I’m not good at it. The lady literally said “Well… it looks like you tried really hard.” Like, ow.
