šŸ€ The 2024-25 Hoos, Ron Sanchez edition…

Yeah I had to pray to the Universe for forgiveness typing that.

In the words of @DFresh11 Rohde will play a lot. Was big player in both of our scrimmages minutes wise.

Rohde is the better facilitator and can maybe hit an open 3. Warley will not hit a 3 for us this year. This stagnant offense needs some sort of ball movement.

It’s less about Rohde vs Warley but moreso I am higher on Dai Dai And Dai Dai + Warley doesn’t really work. Don’t think they even played Dai Dai and Warley together once during the Blue White Scrimmage. I like Dai Dai better as the downhill pg ceiling wise.

If Bliss was healthy and in the rotation my lineup would be Bliss McKneely Warley Saunders Buchanan

Bliss + Warley > Dai Dai Rohde in my mind. But apparently Bliss is not a thing

In 20 years, there’s gonna be some trivia question about which 2 UVa players started for three different UVa coaches and we are all gonna be like ā€œwell iMac, if course, and oh darn … who else could it be?ā€ And then we are gonna hear the answer is Andrew Rhode and we are all gonna be like [pause to remember Andrew Rhode] ā€œno… that can’t be rightā€

Me preparing to defend Rohde this season on the board.

I am reminded of every JWilly preseason show ever, where he mostly wants to complain about the defense not being as far along as they need it to be.

Only the question will include ā€œand played 25 plus mpg for 2 of the 3ā€

Man, I’m old enough to remember when the big topic around here was how important Taine will be this year…

But seriously, that talk has really faded with him not really doing much of note in any of the 3 scrimmages

It’s still possible that because Taine is a known quantity, they wanted to use the scrimmages to see more of Power. But… I don’t think that’s it.

I think that’s possible, as in hypothetically possible, but that pattern doesn’t fit anyone else on the team.

Taine would help his case if he would like…take shots more than once in a blue moon. There are so many shots up for grabs, take some!

I haven’t done the math to account for differences in minutes played, but the usage leaders from the two scrimmages combined are like:

  1. Saunders
  2. IMac
  3. Power
  4. Sharma
  5. Dai Dai

Is that about right?

A poor man’s UConn 2024 lineup — Ames as Newton, McKneely as Spencer, Warley as Castle, Saunders or Power as Karaban. Issue is we don’t have a Clingan….

I think number one is iMac, which is very good! (Based on his FGs in the Gtown scrimmage)

(Never mind - I didn’t even see iMac on your list… he’s probably right there with Saunders. Agree)

Guy took too many shots of the Servanthood Kool-aid

The press conference was pretty much the same answers Tony would have given (and was giving a couple of weeks ago).

Notable that what’s not being said is anything like ā€œWe’ve got a new offense that’ll knock your socks off.ā€ Which, okay, for some time now it’s been clear that there wouldn’t be a major overhaul, but it feels like the closer we get to the season, the more the idea of meaningful offensive changes is being downplayed. ā€œSure, a little faster, but at the margin.ā€

Again, not a Ronchez thing, we got the same vibes from TB. I just wonder what happened to the appetite for shaking things up. Too many new players, too little time, is my guess.

We all just need to give Sanchez some ā€œspace.ā€

Anyone watch McKneely talk a few minutes ago? I didn’t get the sense he was happy. Sounded like the TB news crushed him (which we’ve all talked about but seeing it brought it to life)

Seems like he’s still in shock but excited to lead — to me, at least.

Sanchez is boring. Wake me up when something happens

I actually thought he seemed fine and was happy to see he stepped up as a leader to hold a players only meeting. Can’t hope for much more imo

Just rewatched Sanchez. Thought it was pretty good. One thing I noticed when asked about communicating with players and families since the transition is that he said ā€œmost have responded wellā€. ā€œMostā€ has me thinking that there may be some early attrition
