šŸ‰ The Dragon's Lair - aka Strength & Conditioning Thread

The next verse is the one that belong in a message board debate. Is it ā€œbecause of the joy set before himā€ or ā€œinstead of the joy set before himā€.

It’s all Greek to me and to centuries of Bible translators.

(This is now a philosophy and religion thread, :joy:)

What about the part of ā€œlay aside every weightā€?

I was doing kettle ball swings today… I thought I was going to throw my back on the 5th set of 20. Getting old sucks :joy:

Like most things within the Word it is open for interpretation. And like a good scholar I choose to take what connects for me and leave the rest.

@jazznutUVA leaving for BMT at the end of September and shooting for Warhawk. Any tips on increasing push-up volume besides just doing a bunch of push-ups?

@BDragon may have some more tips… but the one I always give folks is to increase volume is to space out your push-ups throughout the day. What is your current failure rate?

Let’s say your current failure rate is 50 push-ups. Wake up in the morning and drop and do 10 push-ups… then every hour do 10 more push-ups. Then at the end of the day do 25 push-ups for 50% failure. This will build up your accumulation.

Do the above on even days… then do HIIT routines on odd days. I like this one…

20m sprint out
20m sprint back
10 push-ups
30 second rest
20m sprint out
20m sprint back
10 push-ups
30 second rest
20m sprint out
20m sprint back
60 second rest

repeat above 12 times.

@jazznutUVA is on the right track on methods to increase volume.

Depending on the amount of time you have between now and showtime, I would also add some resistance and strength work.

Banded pushups with a band over your shoulders 3x10 a few times a week.

I’d also work on strengthening the supportive muscles etc. Core work, the stronger your core is the better you keep your form and take stress and wear off your shoulders. I’d plank every day traditional planks and push up position.

Work on your shoulders too. Keep them healthy stretching activation and upper back movement. Your back does as much to keep your pushups going as your chest.

planks and diamond push-ups… or banded diamond push-ups. Those are killer.

Plank switches are a great one for what @BDragon is saying too. Probably do these at least twice a week… 20 or so with each set of exercises, probably 5 sets.

Do either of you have pull-up improvement suggestions? I regularly do lat pulldowns at fine enough weights and reps but completely suck at pull-ups.

How many can you do before failure?

5? A while back I was doing a progression that was scapular pulls → arch hangs → pull-up negatives → full pull-up but it’s been a while (and before having a kid and having less time to exercise).

Have you ever tried weighted pull-ups?

Pullups are tough because of of the muscle activation. My best advice is band assisted to begin with then gradually use a smaller band until you don’t need one.

Having healthy shoulders helps as well lmao. I’d kill for two good shoulders

Major advantage. Also not surprised a military guy has sh%t shoulders. Very common.
