Except for the turnovers, I was happier with how the team played overall. Positives: great energy; quick, decisive plays by Mamadi when the entry pass did get to him; aggressive drives to the rim by several players; very active on defense; and apparently executed the game plan well. Negatives: turnovers (again); missed 3 pointers (again); occasionally lost shooters on defense (again); and not finishing the first half or the game well (again). Despite lowering expectations, I’ll keep watching the Hoos and cheering them on. Tony’s teams have a history of surprising us when many doubt them.
I mean Kihei shouldn’t have to be the only one throwing the entry pass. It’s easy to create that angle with a simple kick to Key or Morsell on the adjacent wing and open up the entry for Mamadi to receive it. 2-3 of his turnovers go away immediately. That was befuddling to me last night how we were essentially trying to throw the entry pass vertically from the top of the arc to the block when mamadi had his guy sealed horizontally towards the corners.
Fundamentally we made lots of little errors - not reading the man advantage on fast breaks, throwing lobs into double teams, forcing Kihei to be the one to dribble across half court, etc.
That said, we can Monday morning qb this all day but I do give them all credit for leaving it out on the floor last night.
I agree. We can knit pick all day but I thought they fought hard and looked better last night. Tough loss against the 9th ranked team. Time to move on to Saturday.
