Not entirely true. CTB may have been initially scheduled, and I seem to recall seeing it advertised that way on social media, but they had announced prior to airing that Tony Elliot and Lars Tiffany would be on the show.

Yes - it was changed after the Hoos lost

Right, it just seemed like your initial post was implying that something was amiss. They did post the change in the lineup.

Since the Coach’s Corner show is basically a commercial for the athletic department, I can see trying to get some interest up for spring football and the men’s lacrosse team.

They did something similar last year, even though they had announced shows through end of March:
March 14 - last TB coach’s corner, right before NIT started
March 21 - Tiffany came on as there was a NIT game on 3/20 and 3/22
March 28 - Post NIT, Elliott came on.

So what was the point of your original post then?

I wonder if Caitlin Clark would’ve been a better PG in our system last season than Kihei Clark? Better size and shooting, but presumably way less strength and agility.

Simply info … he chose not to field questions in a show format after a tough loss?
I live in NC and the UNC Coach’s show is always on the radio and he’s already had 2 shows since the ACC loss to UVA.

I don’t think he’s done the show that I can remember after a season-ending loss. At this point, we know Tony does this stuff because he has to, not because he likes to. So the moment there’s a reason to duck out, he takes it. Simple as that for me.

All in all, I’m fine with him spending his time trying to keep folks around or get great new talent or catching up on all that prestige TV he misses in season.

Exactly and let’s be honest it’s not like the Coaches Corner provides any sort of insightful in-depth hard hitting questions and answers. It’s a fluff piece 30 min whatever No harm no foul not doing it.

I would like Tony to tell me exactly what all the end of season chats were, who he thinks might leave, and who he’s thinking about in the portal. Is that too much to ask? Just seems reasonable. :joy:

I would actually pay money to fly you down to ask that that question in person, just so I could film the look on his face as you ask it, and then watch the masterclass in deflection that would follow.

This is an interesting point. The fact that we have had the better record means that we have had the higher seeds and play these mid-major teams which aren’t as well known/scouted with mid-major three point snipers and also are looking to make a statement. Michigan State on the other hand our mostly playing Power Conference teams which they *typically are used to playing across the big 10.

So maybe it would be similar to our stretch of wins against Baylor, Illinois and Michigan earlier this season?

It would go like this, but in a nicer tone:

Yes but *what do we think we would be saying about the performance?

In my mind assuming that Kadin and Dunn played okay, I would have thought we *only need to get some more shooters, and then add some more athleticism to our team.

Instead based on how we lost to Furman we are ALSO talking about our offensive inefficiencies, the mind-fuck of Kadin Shedrick for 1/2 of the season, never getting another 5’9 point guard etc. etc.

I think we have a *good system that can get us to a win percentage of atleast 65% (last year and 2020 as an example). We just need the right players to fill in those spots- which I HOPE and it appears we are getting back to that point…now we just need to play them

Our offense actually isn’t bad IF we can get players to hit shots and if our point guard is Ty Jerome, London Perrantes from 3.

Thank you! I think this brings the discussion full circle demonstrating that it HAS been amazing winning the way we’ve won over the past 3 years with the talent we’ve had- to be honest. And it’s fair to acknowledge that a few *minor tweaks here and there are feasible expectations for not only a team of our stature but really *any team regarding guard play.

Bottom line-

  1. Point Guards/Combo guards that can shoot at minimum like London Perrantes. If they can *create their own offense then that would be amazing like Ty Jerome. The *next level is having a guard who can do both at an *elite level like an Isaiah Wong (which we may *never have, but we’ve proven we can win with the first two tiers otherwise)

  2. ATHLETES at the 3,4,5 positions - atleast at the 4 and 5 positions who can play their roles and will NOT get benched.

  3. Shooters and scorers at the other positions who don’t *necessarily have to be lock down defenders but can be taught the packline defense (Sam Hauser, Trey Murphy, Ty Jerome, Kyle Guy, Joe Harris), and are good for 10-12 points per game.

  4. Fill out the rest of the roster with athletes and defenders whom can play a defensive role *immediately, and may develop over time (Dunn and hopefully Bond).

Yes- ALL of their guards are scorers and better ball handlers than any of our guards at the moment, even the guys that are *not paid for players, this allows them to run an offense which has them driving downhill and then able to kick out.

Lol I just realized *our offense is predicated on screening action to pass to shooters who can’t shoot- which has been the case for the past two years, and then before that was Sam, Trey and Huffzingis who could shoot but no guards.

Someone- earlier in this thread provided the rankings for Tenneessee and San Diego state and I was surprised at how low the rankings for Tenneessee as it always seemed they were snaking our recruits (typical 4 stars), but they have some guys that are in the 200’s whom are playing. In other words they are recruiting to their system which is big/tough men playing defense.

I think with TB he changed his system or couldn’t recruit like he wanted after that 2016 class…also the social events of the summer of 2017 didn’t help, but he is just now (6 years later) with the class of 2022 able to pick up players of that caliber in one class…now he just doesn’t need to redshirt them.

Before the season began, we had some fun with the pattern of Armaan Franklin’s 3 point shooting. It oscillates year-by-year. Based on the prior 3 years, a better shooting season was expected. Did it materialize?
