This hasn’t been true since May 2020 (when the NET formula changed eliminate MOV), and even when it was true, 10-point MOV is a cap which means, that a 10 point win is the same as a 50 point win, not that a 12 point win is vastly superior to a 7 point win.
We’d be better off with a worse seed, but a better team. Gotta play guys not in a vacuum of trying to win each game, but trying to have the best team at the end of the season. Hopefully, these two things aren’t mutually exclusive. But I think we need to play it less safe early in the season, and play the guys who have the most upside, even if they are still learning the system.

Because we played Traudt in mop up duty? Again if you want to say he should have played over Caferro, I agree but we aren’t doing much with him getting mop up duty.

I think the relevant point is that if he played in mop-up duty, he wouldn’t have redshirted. By definition.
How much would he have played going forward? 
How much would playing minimally have changed his calculus?

I can’t imagine it would have mattered at all. If his takeaway from the game is that he needed to sit for a year and not compete, it was unlikely he would have really done anything to begin with.
His takeaway from the game happened during a game where he didn’t play. I thought we were discussing a counterfactual where he did play? Why are you assuming his reaction would’ve been the same? (I’m not really assuming other way – I suppose it’s possible he could’ve played, and thought the same, but I think it’s more likely that a different set of facts would have led to a different reaction).

because it’s mop up duty. Why are you assuming that he would suddenly feel comfortable with the physicality playing in a few possessions of a game that has already been decided.
I literally just told you the exact opposite. And I also corrected your misunderstanding of the NET and you haven’t even said “Oh, my B”, so let’s just let this go for now, especially since I am annoying the folks on here even more than usual.

I agree with this. Bottom line- WHEN/IF we get high level recruits then they need to play year 1, because that will pay dividends by year 2. IF we get transfers during this time then they need to *not interfere with our recruited high level recruits, unless THEY are high level themselves. For example I’m sure BVP would have been happy to be a part of a team that got to the sweet 16 if Traudt was playing more minutes than him vs. us having a low ceiling and ultimately failing in the post season because he’s taking too many minutes (I know players don’t think about it like this necessarily, but if we are succeeding and making it into the second season then Everyone is happy).
Another example- Taine and Papi got *very little play ALL season, and yet their playing time went up during the ACC tournament and NCAA tournament only because BVP got hurt, and so I don’t think it was necessarily fair to them to be put in that position to perform at a high level after sitting the bench for 2.5 months.

Have to be a really inexperienced coach not to be able to teach the drop step, power dribble, and hook shot.

The player has to have some responsibility for his own career considering that the information for skills development is widely available..

17 guys on this list under 10% of minutes played, which would be 4 minutes per game if they had played every game. I assume some of these guys had injuries, but I wasn’t sure about each situation.
Curious what people think are qualitative differences between redshirting and playing extremely low minutes (<10%)? I imagine there are plenty, but I don’t really have a good feel for what’s better in what situations.
