I think 2 things can be true. Rohde is good. Bond can be good. And Taine could get 12 regular minutes a game. Rohde is playing too much right now.
I’d like Rohde as 6th man until either EG is ready or Harris is back to relieve Beekman.
That way Rohde can be the back up PG and also a wing player with Reece. About 24-25 minutes is right. Not because he’s not good - but because we actually have playable depth that can come in and play really hard and get after it.
So, start Taine? Or Bond?
Who do you start over him? I’ll disagree with any answer you provide but I am curious to hear your opinion.
It’s kind of weird timing to all of a sudden be arguing about whether Taine > Rohde and now saying Rohde shouldn’t start considering Rohde has been very solid the last two games against P5 competition (almost like it takes time to get comfortable with the jump in competition). The offense is starting to click and now we need to change the starting lineup and insert…who? Bond, who has looked mediocre against P5 competition and is playing more at the 4 anyway. Taine? Who is a 3rd year and does little besides stand in the corner? I am so confused.
I agree that Tony will have them ready to play…no doubt. And I saw the line, which is probably correct; I expect that it is. But I wonder what the line was the other night for Kentucky, or for FAU vs. Bryant. I feel comfortable but want to stay focused; I would just hate to see us drop a buy game.
I wouldn’t, personally, advocate for any less time for Rohde, maybe if it was to keep bringing Elijah or Bond along, but not for the sake of adding Taine minutes into the core rotation, especially because that would be at cost to those other two endeavors.
Rohde’s averaging about 30 mpg - he averaged 33 at St. Thomas and closed that season almost playing the entire game in most of their contests while playing at his best at the end of most of those games against some good players. I haven’t noticed much fatigue or lack of efficacy from him in more minutes - actually the opposite. He’s a volume/rhythm player; it’s no coincidence, IMO, that he’s played his best over the past two games when we’ve needed to lean on him more, not less.
In a 1-3 where you’ve got three really good starters, and two backups with a ton of potential and higher long-term ceiling - especially Eli who missed six games worth of run, it doesn’t make a ton of sense to me to carve out such a significant chunk of time for him. It’s not like McKneely or Rohde are gassed and, if they were, give me those Eli/Leon minutes!
Play everyone!
Seriously, one of our assets this year is depth. Take advantage of it. Even if you get only 5-10 minutes a game from Taine, or from Minor, or whomever – if they can be solid out there, hold down the fort, not make many mistakes, make an occasional nice play, that gives you a chance to give someone else extra rest. That’s a huge deal over the course of the season.
Push for more time for Taine so then we can ask why is Taine playing so much in a few games
You can tell when we’re playing well because the board suggestions to Tony start feeling forced. I’m hoping there’s a push for Minor to start by February.
We have finished healthy for the madness 3 times under CTB in his 14 years. Thrice. That’s it. I simply want our entire 11 to be prepared to contribute at any point in the season because they have enough game reps for it not to be uncomfortable in high leverage moments.
Like Auburn making the Final 4 without their best player. Like Oregon making the Sweet 16 without their best player and another injury. And many more examples.
We’ve already had an injury - hopefully that means it’s out of the way now?
What if Dante had gotten hurt on March 7th? And Elijah was still redshirting and Taine hadn’t gotten any run for 3 months and Bond had only played as a big? Would we be ok? Maybe?
I get spreading out the minutes but you said plainly that you would have Rohde come off the bench. I’m just wondering who you think should start over him?
I don’t think there’s a groundswell.
I guess I can see getting more playing time for the deeper bench dudes, but unless you’ve got that sports almanac from Back to the Future, you can’t really plan for injuries.
Of course, if you had the sports almanac from Back to the Future, you’d already know who won or lost, so planning for the injury wouldn’t matter… or would it… I’m confused…?
Is there a game thread for tonight? Favored by 24.5. I doubt it
Bad spread - these guys are good.
And no Reece can’t not play tonight.
What makes this team “good”?
Their coach and style
On paper they look pretty bad. Reece on Po Boigh?
Is Reece!! Playing?
I would assume yea. Long break after this game. But they could be extra cautious
Is this a Louisiana joke? Because I’m here for it
Moton is, and has been for awhile, the best coach in the MEAC (Jones at Norfolk St. #2 IMO). Still I think we do better than last year against them. If memory serves they had a lot of returners last year and were experienced as were we, but still. I’m not sure we quite cover 24.5 as you know how Coach Bennett roles with pulling starters early in “blowouts”, but we win by 20+.
