Wasnât it us or UNC for Gill, and when he took his UNC visit, they told him he needed to commit now or they wouldnât guarantee a spot?
My own guess is that we play much better Saturday but still come up just short.
Then we knock off VT at home and finally break through on the road @ GT. I think we start the turnaround Saturday even if we dont win.
I feel the same way. Weâve also never lost a road game Iâve attended so who knows, maybe we pull off a miracle on Saturday
Iâll take that in a heartbeat.
Speaking of transfer rankings, I really thought we struck gold with Rohde (and we still might have). Thought that type of pickup was right in our sweet spot and he chose UVA over some good programs.
Hasnât worked out yet but doesnât mean he wasnât a good pickup at the time. There were even rumblings this offseason of him having an NBA ceiling
Makes sense given he was practicing against our defense.
Print it out, play at home.
He is slower of foot than I expected based on the film. But then again, he was competing against slower footed dudes. I like his savvy but he needs to hit open shots a higher rate and be more effective against smaller defenders in the post. We need to get Harris back as soon as possible. Rohde is not capable of effective play at 30+ mins/game.
Not trying to extensively quote from a subscription article (worth subscribing if you like Xs and Os) but the chart of screen defense aggressiveness and defensive efficiency is interesting.
Lots of different ways to a good (or bad) defense.
Was same for me too until last year at UNC and then Sat at StateâŚ
I think we could play better against Wake and still lose by 15.
Wake is really really good.
Having the same defensive efficieny as _uke. yuck
Gill chose us over UNC and Ohio State (when they were dominating under Mata) if I remember correctly. He was a big get at the time.
Transfer recruiting when players still expected to sit out was a totally different game. Apples to oranges. Think of this wayâŚitâs a willing redshirt. Perfect for TB haha Those were players looking for exactly what UVA is selling. Plus because theyâre sitting out, you donât need exactly the opportunity theyâre looking for. So it opens the door to just about anybody. Thatâs why transfer recruiting used to be all about prior relationships and youâd mostly get players you previously recruited.
Now itâs mostly just on court fit and opportunity. You need the right immediate opening. And players are transferring for very different reasons than they used to. I think thereâs a good case to be made that UVA isnât actually missing out on a single recruit by refusing to pay for them. Because most if not all players who are primarily concerned with that arenât going to choose to play for TB anyhow. Weâll never know.
While not a transfer per se, I always treated the Malik reneau recruitment like one after he decommitted from Florida.
My recollection was that we felt like we were in a good position and he had a visit scheduledâŚ.then boom, he committed to IU on a visit (iu boards said he committed over a nil presentation right after it became above board). I felt the landscape changed that day.
Would be nice to have him as a post on our current roster.
Yeah I agree. They have 3 really good guards who can go create for themselves (and this is with Monsanto still to return though thankfully not by Saturday). And now that Reid is eligible theyâre not nearly as soft in the post. Plus their bigs can get out and hit 3âs.
Have to pray they have a really off shooting night basically
Dont think Reneau was super crazy about UVA. Indiana has strong connections with Montverde Academy and his teammate (that 5 star guard) was already committed to Indiana. Of course NIL in that case didnât help, Reneau talked about the Indiana crazed fan base on his trip.
âDonât say it. Donât say it. Donât say it. Donât say it.â
âISAAC MCKNEELY IS FROM POCA, WEST VIRGINIA. GUESS WHAT THE MASCOT WAS? THE DOTS!â
TU is absolutely firing on ALL CYLINDERS in response to @HoozGotNextâs request for mailbag questions on Twitter. This isnât even all of them.
Most are good questions though
I really like where he states âfans think we arenât athletic but thats not true.â But then asks the question âDo you think we are athletic?â
