the men have had some really good recruits that just havenβt panned out for whatever reason - it happens a lot in swimming - but theyβve never gotten the critical mass to make the jump.
Texas and Cal have dominated menβs recruiting for years due to coaches and guys wanting to practice with the other best guys. For some reason, guys like to go to NC State, too.
Same reason our women have continued to build on the critical mass begun by Douglass, Ella Nelson, and Alex Walsh.
But in part due to Heilman that Lodger96 mentioned and in part due to DeSorbo continuing to prove heβs a world-class coach, they finally got the big group for next year.
This yearβs younger men who were good recruits are really improving, which has helped them pick up some more top international recruits that other teams have gotten the past several years.
Roster limits next year are 30 each for men and women. Or maybe 22 for men, Iβm reading conflicting information.
Good since right now thereβs only 9.9 scholarships for men and 14 for women, so potentially more kids can get school paid for depending on funding. Bad in that there are currently 34 women and 27 men on the squad, so unless the graduation/new recruits numbers work out, some people wonβt have a spot next season and simply transferring wonβt be easy because all the good programs have this numbers crunch, maybe worse. I was reading some SEC school had 44 women in the squad.
