kenpom has this game as the 3rd most dominant win in D1 this season after Louisville/Pitt (100-59) and UConn/UMass-Lowell (110-47)
Video?
Havenāt seen anyone mention it, but that was Dallin Hallās first career double double last night. 12 pts 10 ast (1 to)
Thanks!
The radio broadcast team talked about this magic act some during the game (the obvious gag being that it was the cause of the teamās success), and then when Jimmy Miller interviewed Dallin postgame, Dallin addressed him as āMaster Magician.ā
The team reacts like they collectively saw a ghostā¦would David Blaine and the Mindfreak be treated like living gods nowadays?
My game prediction would have been exactly right if it werenāt for the unexpected variable of Jimmy Millerās magic act. That threw everything off.
Some people consider games where we win by a big score to be āho hum.ā I much prefer games where I can sit back and relax and watch our guys kick the daylights out of some team that is on the floor curled up in a ball crying and begging for mercy. I need less stress in my life, not more.
I think itās more impressive when the magic is done by a guy you know⦠old Grandpa broadcaster who claims he played UVA basketball 50 years ago
⦠and turns out heās had this other skill in his pocket the whole time
2023 Louisville and Cal were not that long ago. 2024 Louisville was bad too.
Pitt in 2018 - ACC games average scoring was 56-75
Went 0-18
The last pic on the UVA team account IG post is great:
Also, that schedule is something. If playing OSU in Nashville mid conference play is kinda meh, then what is hosting Rollins College on Valentines Day?
We played Rollins, Louisville and Arkansas OOC in a 2ish week period in the middle of conference season. And UPenn about 2 weeks before that. And D3 Randolph Macon?
I guess in the days of a 8 team round robin conference schedule, you had to fill some January/February dates.
That was a 14-game conference schedule, vs. 18 today. Then again, that season didnāt start until Nov 23, whereas this yearās team had already played UMES five times before Nov 23.
Itās interesting, isnāt it? At a quick glance, it seems like fewer cupcakes, and theyāre more scattered around the schedule.
I think there are various reasons why we have wound up in a situation where Nov/Dec are so cupcake heavy, but I really donāt think itās because coaches think that a good way to develop their teams is to start with lots of bad games.
Thereās a reason Bennett scrimmaged against and Odom scheduled exhibitions against other good teams.
Damn, what year was that? I might have been in school then.
Looks like 84-85
Road game at UPenn too, if Iām guessing right about what the colors mean! Wouldnāt mind that happening again, I am definitely a Palestra-enjoyer
I forgot to point out the GW game in conference season too.
If orange is home and blue is away, did we really play road games at W&M, UPenn and Davidson? Holland had the Davidson connection. Was Littlepage coaching UPenn at the time? I think there was a concerted effort to play around the state in the 80s and 90s before every game was on TV, so explains at W&M. And VT used to rotate between Roanoke, Richmond and Norfolk (or maybe Hampton) - I donāt remember anything in Fairfax or DC.
