TLDR - when landscapes evolve, and you don’t evolve because you don’t want to evolve, the ending of the story isn’t hard to predict.

I like this, though it’ll never happen. Also under the ā€œwill never happenā€ umbrella is my preferred rule change for the NBA: make 3-point shots worth only 2.5.

Also, tell that to Painter and Shaka. Tony is a dude with agency who is both an actor and being acted upon. Tony could’ve picked continuity and experience. He didn’t.

Other proposed rule changes for the NBA, while we’re at it:

  • Dunks are worth 3 points
  • You have to call ā€œbankā€
  • Traveling is not allowed

If you call foul the made basket doesn’t count

If you are under 6 feet… baskets are doubled… that would make things interesting! KG might unretire!

… or forget it on KG… hes over 6 feet.

This isn’t unprecedented… volleyball introduced the short person libero position in 1998… let’s mix things up in basketball introduce the short round position in basketball!

All NBA centers have to be over 35 and under 6’5". I think some of us could fight for roster spots!

The libero in volleyball cannot block or spike… so only used in the back row. The short round in basketball could not go into the key and dunk at any time. Wear a contrasting jersey just like the libero in volleyball.

Can we include the dorm leagues in our portal searches?

This is a cool possession for @Cuts_from_The_Corner to surface:

  1. Cofie looks sharper with his rotations and closeouts compared to G1 (obvious, but still worth saying). Switching onto Robinson’s man was the right read.
  2. Robinson was a step slow reading that Cofie had his man now; sometimes Cofie would scramble back out to Matt Cross once Robinson gets back, but he didn’t here. So Cross was wide open on the wing for too long. Not the easiest pass to make when there’s ball pressure, but not ideal from our defense’s perspective.
  3. Sharma crashing down on the boards was a welcome sight there. Too often our guards are doing what Taine was doing there, which is standing in no-man’s-land, making no body contact with their man, and kinda just hoping the ball comes to them. That can’t happen. Either hit your man, crash towards the boards, or leak out and make your man hesitate on attacking the boards.

Also, while I think this season is pretty much already lost, the best path for both CRS hanging onto the job in the off-season AND making things fun for the fans is to credibly be building something to look forward to for next season.

Winning 19 games vs 18 probably won’t move the needle appreciably. But having a young core excited about coming back that actually plays well together and grows together through the end of the season might. I mean, we’re trying to draw to an inside straight here, but why not at least have fun while you’re doing it?

Giving Cofie, Sharma and ARob 20 minutes together every night would substantially increase their odds of coming back. Sure, we might win 15-16 games, but at least it’d would be interesting. And if they happen to hit, then maybe CRS keeps the job, too.

I’ll say it again … i don’t want anyone back next year that has played minutes for Tony except Gertrude…. These guys haven’t been ruined yet and are still capable of aggression…

Rohde, IMac, Blake - gone.

Powers and Saunders I’m indifferent to.

Give me any of Dai Dai, Sharma, Gertrude, Robinson, Cofie - whoa would you look at that?? An actual D1 caliber lineup with size and athleticism??? Naw - not at UVA???

Bliss - tbd.

In the meantime without Eli - play Des more.

iMac could be a great bridge to the future. I’d still bet on him being back, even if it’s not Ron. (And I wonder if there are places you can actually bet on this …)

If I was iMac I’d go chase the bag next year.

But how could he transfer as a rising senior, wouldn’t he need 60 credits to graduate at his next school?! … What’s that? That’s just UVA’s unique way of self-sabotaging itself relative to its competition? I see…

I got the impression it was not at all unique amongst our academic peers. UNC, Michigan, Duke, et al. Even Nova had a tough time with Shulga.

We just get hurt by it worse, because we are then competing against those guys for the even narrower talent pool.

IMac I think has pretty good bag at UVa no?
