I just get really defensive of McKneely because I think he got a shit deal. CTB promised him and his family that heâd be here all four years. Then, CTB broke that promise, and did so in a way that essentially set a year of his eligibility on fire. And then the next staff didnât prioritize him (which is perfectly fine). So it just bothers me to hear this fan base rag on him when this program sorta treated him like shit
Bennett kinda screwed all those guys and we shouldnât boo or have hard feelings about any of them. Save the hate for guys like McKoy.
Nah CTB just entered the portal first. Thats how it goes these days. Cuts both ways for players and coaches
I kind of feel that way about all tranfers (except McKoy). I was happy for Shayok, Bond and even Morsell (when not playing us) when they do well. I think that most of the guys that played here were good guys.
Well if you over simplify and ignore the timing youâre totally right
It was weird when we booed Saunders and it will be weird when we exceptionally boo Dai Dai vs any other cal players.
Tony ditched this team a few weeks before the season and they wasted a year of eligibility in a miserable experience in half filled arenas when they could have easily done what Warley and Bliss did.
Heckle like any other player sure. But to boo them because of some hatred when we donât really know what happened behind scenes is just weird.
Thatâs my 2nd reason for not wanting to Boo Dai Dai (the first being to keep the line alive during the upcoming portal season)
I like booing any players that Odom wanted and tried to keep but left any way. Because they didnât want to play here, they get booâed.
Saunders booing was exceptionally weird because he wanted to stay but Odom didnât want him and then fans booâed HIM lol. Absurd.
But all of this is just my personal booâing framework, canât expect most fans to know all these sicko behind the scenes details.
If a former Hoo didnât turn out to be a douche bag/criminal, or transfer to UNC or dookâŚ.why would anyone boo them?
I love that even among the fans who donât boo former Hoos, McKoy is the exception case. ![]()
Never go full Tar Heel.
McKoy is almost at Ronald Curry level
McKoy also had the added spice of talking some ish on the way out the door. So booing bis uncaged a$$ was even more fun.
I got no beef with Dai Dai. Hard to be too invested in a guy who lived in Charlottesville for 6.5 months.
Im pretty sure McKoy was spotted behind the UVA bench during our ACC title run in 2023. Which makes all the âbeefâ more hilarious.
McKoy was one of the first people to go to bat Defending Tony Bennettâs remarks about the landscape âHe would have given us more if he couldâ etc. etc.
Honest question: Were there really players that fit this description? My impression was that Odom wanted to wipe the slate clean. There may have been a few players he would have kept, but he did not seem to prioritize them and did not recruit them aggressively.
None of the guys stayed long enough for me to get attached, especially not Dai Dai. At the end of the day, when a coaching regime changes itâs hard to blame anyone for moving on. Most of them arenât even playing that great except for Dai Dai, and knowing him, Cal wonât get him for another year anyway
But thats also us LRA junkies who knew that. Iâm sure the JPJ stands had many casual fans who would never know that and just think one tracked (not a hoo anymore = boo).
FWIW I thought the booing was shitty too, just am pretty positive most of the booing was people who donât follow all this nearly as closely as we do
Whoops, overlooked this part. So yeah, same note
Considering the lack of ticket demand, I donât think there will be that many in attendance to even boo Dai Dai.
ACC schedule makers did us no favors for the first half of the ACC schedule with 6 of our first 9 on the road, and 1 of those 3 on a Wednesday night with a 9:00 start time. Anyone coming from Richmond, Lynchburg, or north of Culpepper wouldnât get home until close to 1:00 am.
Iâm not sure. iMac and Cofie maybe the closest? But even that was a little murky. I remember reading they made iMac a competitive offer, but not sure whether they were willing to go all out. he also seemed to have his sights set elsewhere anyway. At least thats what I recall
IMac was never going to return. Not saying that on the record but feel confident enough to say it out loud based on a few interactions last season.
Big picture my understanding was Odom wanted a clean slate. Not sure how hard the staff pushed to retain anyone.
