šŸ€ Virginia vs Manhattan, W, 74-65, 4-2 (0-0 ACC), Tuesday, 26 November 2024, 1900, ACCN

Defensive pressure of any kind is a real problem for us. Rohde played well but when Dai Dai isn’t in, he has to spin-dribble like 3X to get the ball over half- court. Get ready for pressure all year in the backcourt. When you only have 15 seconds to run offense instead of 25 seconds, it’s a problem. We need Bliss like the desert needs the rain.

I hope Ronchez isn’t planning on playing 4 guys 30+ Ironman minutes every game.

Not every game, but against the Manhattan Jaspers you just can’t afford to go to your bench too much

How exactly does one go about finding the gif in your post? Does searching ā€œshit/sneezeā€ do the trick? Inquiring minds absofuckinlootly have to know.

Yeah, I don’t know how to fix what ails this team, at least not with the players on this team. Just so many holes. Just Rohde, Ames, and Cofie playing above my pre-season expectations. McNeely, Buchanan, Power, Saunders, Taine all playing below my pre-season hope. Taine passed up numerous shots in his time in there. Don’t know about Sharma but apparently not impressing the coach.

Bliss not playing is all. We may never see him on the court.

The defense is awful. Don’t really think this bunch is going to figure out how to play the packline this year. Wonder if a simpler D isn’t in order.

Sorry, just a bit depressed by it all. Maybe by mid-season I will have accepted it and can enjoy the game.

We are all going to have to reset expectations and positives in order to enjoy this season. We probably won’t win very many games going away. The defense will be choppy. There will be more blowouts against the top competition. But there is probably enough to squeeze 18 wins out of this year and have a few moments. That’s where I am. No expectations past this year bc the entire team will reset. Maybe Ron can do what Tony never did- squeeze into the tournament and overperform seed expectation. Probably not. So have to focus each game on the little positives.

For me, today it’s the growth of Rohde! Kid has earned it after going through it the last year.

I pull up Instagram and this is what I see. Perfectly captures my own face the last few weeks

I was actually going for a different ā€œshit/sneezeā€ – the one from the movie Hall Pass. But when I searched for it what showed up was what I posted and a quality representation of our defense tonight.

Just need to sustain our energy across a game. Too many lapses where we took our foot off the gas. Especially defensively.

Manhattan did hit a ton of contested 3s first half and early 2nd.

All the rhythm stuff we hit first half we won’t get against more athletic opponents.

I’ll also say that if Dai Dai doesn’t close out and get his hands up one more time … man. Let’s his guys shoot with a perfect line of sight every single damn time.

Seems like EVERY team we’re supposed to beat horribly, hits crazy contested 3s against us like it’s routine. Then the commentator talks about how like 1 dude is like 2-10 on the season and has been unconscious

We were giving up a lot of open and poorly contested threes last night. Credit to Manhattan for knocking down the shots, but our D looked really bad.

My expectations were set in September. At least was right about one part.

Yep and they were off simple drive and kicks. Guys getting beat constantly off the dribble, defense collapsed and open 3 was there.

There were at least two straight possessions where they cashed in a three on a pick and pop off a high ball screen. Our bigs’ hedges were largely ineffective and couldn’t recover quickly enough to effectively contest.

It did seem like almost every guy got straight beat 1v1. They had one player who was really, really quick so that was understandable, but it was like everyone had trouble keeping their man in front. Not super encouraging when you consider we were playing an MAAC team.

Thats how I saw it. Also Manhattan missed more than a couple pretty open shots

Looked at box score this morning. Isaac Mac played 37 minutes last night. Just seems like too many minutes as we need him all year at his best.

Dang it and I said how I loved Rons rotations

It’s way way too much for a November mid major game. Unfortunately we needed him Was a four point game in the second half and game wasnt really secure until his dagger 3 late.
