Cofie needs to get better at D so heās not a liability against better teams on that end of the floor.
So if Saunders can play the 3 and Cofieās D isnāt a liability, then I like the DD McKneely Saunders Cofie Buchanan lineup A LOT. In the meantime we should probably start Rohde at 3. And of course itās also matchup dependent / if we need more ball handling on the floor, Rohde. If we need more size and athleticism, Cofie (assuming he gets his defensive rotations sorted out).
We do need to get Robinson some more minutes but he definitely looks lost out there most of the time right now.
This team is probably a month away from even finding out what we have. Hate it but thatās just how it is sometimes when you play this way and obviously there were some preseason curveballs. You could tell in game 1, they were way behind.
A lot of the problems being pointed to are just symptoms. The defensive rebounding is because the defense is out of whack, too often in poor position to rebound when shots go up. The turnover problem has a lot to do with an offense thatās still dysfunctional, figuring out how they need to play, right now theyāre too easily sped up, everything is uncomfortable.
Itāll be a test for Sanchez. This is where TB was special. We took it for granted that he would get things ironed out. Gotta keep everybody bought in, not easy.
If your bigs have to contest every shot because your perimeter defenders arenāt containing drives, itās hard for them to rebound.
Also, I feel like prime TB teams had guards swooping in for rebounds not infrequently. Just picking a random year, in 2016-2017, Devon Hall had the second highest defensive rebounding % out of the rotation players. In the Bahamas the guards were mostly out of the picture, but also not leaking out for transition. Just kinda standing there.
Yeahā¦theyāre just not as good defensively in the backcourt as usual. Thatāll lead to giving up more ORebs from penetration as you explained. But a lot of it just when they get shifted, the hedges doubles etcā¦when it turns into scrambles as TB called it, theyāre bad right now. Thatās the real key to the defense, recovering in the chaos. Shots go up and theyāre still recovering instead of between a man and the basket.
Also Blake just needs to freaking box out, drives me crazy. Heās in perfect position too often and just never puts a body on anybody. Heāll do everything right, then just sorta mentally relaxes when the shot goes up.
If I remember correctly, we started last year giving up a bunch of rebounds, but Tony got it ironed out. Like you said, can no longer take things like that for granted.
It sucks, but Iām quickly losing interest in this team and this season. Itās not the losing, itās the status quo of play and lack of excitement to watch anyone on this roster.
We need to shoot more threes ā and Sanchez should get more early minutes from the bench ā weāre losing our legs in the last five minutes. And we need to shoot more coming out of break. Guess Sanchez has been trying to establish the inside game after halftime?
We should be shooting a minimum of 25-3s per game. Right now we dont get that many shots a game. We have more shooters like Imac,Heās just the best .We have several that can shoot it . We canāt get them the ball at the right time. We have a team and i donāt think anyone can set a good screenl. If they set a screen they donāt hold it.Its time to get some dawgs on the team. We have to play tough and smart. I havenāt give up yet but i have more worries about this team than any i can remember in a long timep
Time to get right and work on some issues before a huge matchup @ Florida next week. I think we see a change in the starting lineup. What do you guys think?
I personally donāt think theyāll move Saunders down. Atleast not to start. My 2 guesses at starting would be Rohde or Taine, but I think Taine is lagging behind.
I donāt like Rohde or Cofie starting⦠takes away all the flexibility of off the bench options⦠Start Taine or Sharma at the 3 ⦠Rohde can be first off the bench at any of 3 spots.
Cofie first off bench at 4/5 spots.
Robinson start at the 5. Play a lot next 4 weeks. See what he can do.
Would help give a vertical dimension to our offense we donāt have with all the ground bound dudes.
I agree with playing a lot more Robinson⦠if you think of both Villanova and Tennessee, they both had big guys that had rocks for hands and couldnāt shoot for anything but they were big, rebounded and blocked shots⦠They provided energy on the offensive end in dunks and put backs. we have to take the bad with the good.
Agreed, doesnāt really solve the main offensive problem with our lineups, which is a lack of juice with the ball.
Not sure what they should do otherwise. Powerās spot is the obvious one to experiment with, but the options arenāt so obviously better. I guess that means Iād be fine with any of them.
I wonder if improvement is going to have to come from a general āplay betterā adjustment rather than a particular lineup combo. Iām sure theyāll try more lineup combos because hey, what else can you do? But I donāt see much low-hanging fruit.
I think that the low hanging fruit is rebounding and toughnessā¦even if the offense will take time.
I think that adding Robinson to rebound will helpā¦For that 3 spot, I think it needs to be earned, so am ok with trying Sharma and Taine, and then rotating back to Power once he gains some confidence off the bench against a second unit.
