Virginia vs Northeastern, Sat, 16 Dec, 1800, ACCN

I want to see him start letting it fly from deep with confidence, when he’s in a good opportunity. There’s been 3 or 4 times when I’ve been like “SHOOT IT” when he catches a pass on the wing.

Uncage him, Tone!

Exactly…there’s height, and then there’s “playable height” (height including vertical)…and in both Leon and Eli’s cases, they both play at a “playable height” greater than Jake and Andrew, respectively.

Again, not a knock on Rohde (or Jake in this case). But just saying we wouldn’t be giving up a lot of inches in “playable height” if we started Eli and Leon.

Go HOOS. Beat Memphis.

We lack physicality, bulk and awareness in any one body. I guess coaches hoped it was Minor but that does not seem to be the case at all. Blake will get there but he is bewildered right now when the ball is moving around and by the time he confirms his proper positioning the ball the ball is already off the rim. Poor Rohde does not have lift or bulk. Groves has smarts and height but lacks the legs and bottom to hold his own. Bond could be a partial answer but in a volleyball situation around the rim he is too short. Gertrude could end up being our best guard rebounder pound for pound - he seems to have some savvy about where the ball will bounce and how to time his jump. All 3 attributes can be addressed in the long run but will be bailing wire and collective effort this season.

Yep! And my *concern is whom have we developed into these type of players that didn’t have this skill when they arrived at Uva?

I feel like it had more to do with who they were playing more so than the break

If you start Eli or Bond over Rohde … you are giving you 2nd highest assist leader and 2nd best facilitator less minutes. That places more pressure on Beekman. Not to mention that Rohde plays very good defense.

Even though Rohde is still searching for his comfort zone on offense he plays like a veteran in the other aspects of his game and TB likes having that in the game. Even though Leon and Eli show flashes that excite us they are still new and will be more consistent as they get more experience. Then watch out.

I think Eli and Rohde are very different players and, no, I wouldn’t change the lineup (nor do I think CTB will). But this may be a good example of “it’s not who starts the game but who finishes it”. As the season goes on and each gets better and more fluid in their roles, you can feel out who is being more effective in each game. And of course this is really a group of players at the 2/3, not just Eli and Rohde.

Reece is already at an absurd 43.8 Assist %
Rohde is 2nd at 22.1%
Bond is 3rd at 12.9%
Harris at 12.3%
Groves at 11.8%

I think Bond on the floor with Groves works just fine for that one aspect - and a lot better for scoring, rebounding and defense??
Why not bring in Rohde with Eli when Reece goes out?
