Sorry haters. Some of us enjoyed watching hoops in the Leitao era as well.
On the Mt Rushmore of āHaney went to that tourney and had fun and also got schooled in pick up hoops by the Diener family at the Columbus Yā thereās only one coach - Dave Leitao.
On the Mt Rushmore of āHaney went to open practice only because heās not made of money after all and saw J-Willy and Darion beefin and then the next night we tried to cover Branden Dawson with Evan frickin Nolte, not that Iām bitterā is Tony Bennett.
I do regret not trying harder to get to MSP howeverā¦
Ah yes of course, funny I forgot since I was there lol. Also was at the next round vs. Tennessee which imo we win if JR doesnāt hurt his ankle in the first half
To be fair, Iām being a little loose around the details. Darion managed to find himself in the doghouse a fair amount before he was a senior.
There was clearly beef with the staff. There may have even been something he said to Norm Wood from the Daily Progress.
Yup, Iām a grudge haver⦠so when Iām old and forgetful, my memory of Tony Bennett will be āNever streamed the Blue-White game, didnāt play Darion after AG got hurt ⦠and ⦠I think he won a natty, but Iām getting old and forgetful so donāt quote me.ā
I feel like the HOF is a lock due to the numbers cited PLUS the fact that he ran a very clean program. His reputation amongst the CBB community will get him over the line. I actually think the bigger debate is whether he or Holland is UVaās greatest coach. Hard to do on the numbers alone because the two eras were very different. I would be interested to hear opinions on that 1a/1b question.
I wasnāt around for the Holland era, but I think itās Tony. Natty + better regular season record + Holland a bit hamstrung by rep of being āRalphās coachā
CTB having the natty is the crown jewel superlative, and he did have great ACC success.
I get your point on Holland underperforming with Ralph, but he did have 2 FFs, another 2E8, and another S16. The regular season in the ACC was a gauntlet in the 80s with UNC, Duke, Md, GT, and NCSt all having iconic coaches (though Duke real big moments came in the 90s). Itās a good debate question.
@DFresh11 you might be biased on this one, but Iām sure you have some good thoughts. Keeping the discussion entirely positive What strengths did each coach bring to the table?
