Anyone here currently coaching HS varsity boy’s basketball teams? Generally curious and would be fun to follow a few more teams this summer and next winter. Assuming X’s and O’s channel is the best place to ask and where those folks might live.
So cool! Maybe Jeremy should have his own show. He went to Harvard, right? No surprise there after seeing this. Bright guy.
He does have his own podcast…
This Freakonomics one from back in the day is pretty good though… he is only a guest on this episode… I’ve actually quoted him from this podcast several times on here over the years.

A philosophical basketball question for the board:
If a player’s total offensive impact - scoring, playmaking, handle, etc. - is worth 10 “points,” how many “points” is their total defensive impact worth?
Asked a different way, if the best offensive player of all time (but with zero defense) was worth 10 billion, how much would the best defensive player of all time (but with zero offense) be worth?
I’ll go with 7-7.5 points (or 7 to 7.5 billion). If you look at common all-in-one impact metrics like RAPM and DARKO at the NBA level (where you can estimate them using multiple seasons of data, making them more reliable indicators), the best defender’s defensive impact metric has a value that is around 70-75% of the best offensive player’s offensive impact metric.
I feel like this is a Cam Thomas case study. I don’t have a value on it but I think he makes me believe that the defensive part is worth much more than I would originally have thought.
Also longevity wise, it seems more guys can hang around the league that are B+ and above defenders compared to B+ and above scorers.
Doesnt matter cause the best defender cant shut down the best offensive players
Not even close. Good call Fresh.
I totally get that, but I’m looking for the value ratio.
What percentage of a “perfect” offensive player is a “perfect” defensive player worth? 50%? 60%? 70%? More?
Yea. Perfect offense is worth 100 percent. Like pitching vs hitting. Same unless the hitter is Tony Gwynn or Rod Carew
