🏀 #10 Virginia vs #10 Colorado St, NCAAT FF, Tues, 19 Mar, 2110, truTV

I fully expect to get our shit rocked because we seem to in big moments but hoping the guys just play free.

I stupidly made date night plans a couple of weeks ago so I’ll only catch the second half if at all (damn you Dune 2)

Game theory pod report - brief

  • we r a tough hang- guilty
  • Brice looking forward to Knecht Dunn
  • Nique Clifford apparently a borderline draft prospect; scouts should be there to watch to Reece v Isiah and Clifford v Dunn

I think pundits mistaking “we r a tough hang” (true) for “no chance to advance past Texas” (untrue)

Also hopefully Tony took a page out of dune and told the guys to play free: “fear is the mind killer”

I really hope we have our guards cheat a bit further out of the lane and let Minor anchor the interior and Reece take Steven’s 1:1.

(Basically defend them how teams defend us…)

My fear is that Minor gets beat off a PnR early and we immediately counter with BB and defensive rotations get put in a spin cycle like VT second time around.

If we see any of norfolk’s classic in-game optimism we’ll know he’s typing it out from the AMC bathroom lol

Think we’ll know pretty early on where things are headed. Will be a long night if we start cold and they execute for good shots against our defense and build a cushion. I really hope we don’t try to force the ball inside like we did against BC in the first half. Felt like we had 5+ turnovers or bricked shots because of that

The good (?) news is that they are more of an off-ball cutting team than a pick and roll team. Hoop Explorer has a breakdown of a team’s play types on offense, and perimeter cuts are a huge feature of their offense (15.8 out of 100 possessions), as well as perimeter drives to shoot (20.9%) and to pass for a jumper (17.0%). They also get out in transition a fair amount (18.7%), more than their overall pace would imply, which hopefully we can neutralize. The big only shoots of the pick and roll rarely (2.9%) and they post up even less (2.0%). It’s a very Princeton offense (Princeton themselves have a very similar play type distribution this season).

CSU is 11-9 in their last 20 games. Not impressed. They’re about to be 11-10. FIGHT ME MEDIA!

So you won’t be on the game thread for at least a half? Damn, that sucks for those of us who enjoy your uplifting posts about how we’ve had no shooters since 2019, a bad coach, no wrinkles…

Yeah, but they played in that gauntlet that is the MWC. Apparently early 80’s ACC and mid 80’s Big East are the only eras comparable.

Here’s my smack talk: Based on a little trip up there during a Denver vacation, Fort Collins is an awful food town, especially for college town standards. My best meal was at a regional-national breakfast chain and all the local places sucked. Cville runs laps around it.

Funny enough, I was there last fall for a work trip. I ended up skipping the work dinner, but my boss said that his meal (at a purportedly fancy restaurant) was salty and horrible.

I did get a good burrito in Fort Collins, though.

Bettors read my post above. Tough being an influencer, but it’s a cross I bear.
