I went to a church thing last night and about 5 people I didn’t know even watched UVA basketball asked me what the heck happened.

BTW, You probably saw this because it was in this thread, but far back. Of all the crap that has been thrown our way, one stood out to me as really clever. A fan of either St. John’s, Seton Hall, Providence, and one other of the fringe teams that Uva was chosen ahead of, posted on X that “There was a 9:40 period in the first half that St. John’s, Seton Hall, Providence, and .. scored as many points as Virginia” or something to that effect.

My friends who follow hoops but aren’t Virginia fans just don’t text me at all about Virginia after good or bad losses. They know.

Whenever we do talk after a bad loss they just say something like “good to get a proof of life.”

They are real ones.

What it could be is that Tony isn’t a particularly good tournament coach. His teams that did well (like the championship) had strong player leaders who had the power to make decisions on their own sometimes.

I personally think Ty and Kyle and Dre, for example, made some of their own decisions that maybe weren’t quite what Tony was calling for, so to some degree they overcame Tony’s tournament tendencies (and in fairness were empowered by Tony to do so).

Teams that don’t have strong player floor leadership under Tony have done terribly in tournament play. But maybe that’s just a general benefit of player leadership and separate from Tony’s issues.
