2021-2022 Season Vent Thread

The disagreements followed by make ups on LRA are one of my favorite things. Hav missed it when @BDragon single handidly forced our last football coach to resign and the backlash was real

I’ll be ready to receive my cases of bourbon when TE leads the Hoos to a 9 win season this fall, and expect continued homage for each ACC and CFB appearance he leads us to.

You’re welcome

I think most of us here agree with you that role player Kihei is a much better usage than play every minute Kihei.

I don’t think people here are saying that you’re hating on Kihei. Or at least I don’t think that. My impression is that expecting Tony to change Kihei’s role is completely unrealistic, so no point in even suggesting it. But no one wants to be accused of hating on Tony (which, to me is a silly accusation when all we’re suggesting is that maybe a different substitution pattern might be better - Tony’s a great coach, but no one is great at every aspect of their job regardless of their overall greatness).

Anyway, enough run on sentences from me. I think you’ve read enough of my ramblings by now to get what I mean.

Why not? If the team responds well to Elliott, they could go 10-2. The schedule is extraordinarily soft. With BA staying, Elliott has walked into about the best possible situation a new coach could ask for. We should be excited for football.

“Yeah, no. We can’t have a discussion if you are going to use ridiculous defensive ratings statistics to prove a point. They are absolutely worthless in general, but especially so when discussing a player as a whole. And even more worthless when the whole discussion is about athleticism and scoring skill. You keep changing the subject and stats to fit your narrative.”

You sure throw mud at people easily as opposed to rationality … to each their own

Thinking of Armaan at the end of the Florida State game. Beautiful shot, thought he had that game won.

One of our centers is a bull in a china shop. The other is a giraffe on roller skates. I hope the giraffe comes back next year and finds his balance more consistently.

Minimum 6 years required to attain the rank of captain.

Great point. That was an awesome moment for Armand that got ruined by a crazy shot that somehow went in.

I think getting those “dogs” in is one of the biggest takeaways. I think Gardner has some of that but it was his first year in the program. Doesn’t seem like we really have had someone like that since Ty who was willing to get in his teammates’ faces and get them going. Looks like McKneely could be that guy?

It’s one thing to post on a message board. But who is tagging and direct messaging Armaan’s mom wtf?

Twitter fans are the worst

One account claims to be “parody” on UVa sports. I guess he she it thinks parody is bring mean and
disrespectful to moms who apparently have done a fantastic job raising a student athlete.

I messaged the person moms are off limits and to clean it up. Havent heard back ha

Social media (apart from LRA of course), was a mistake

Agree 100% that it’s bad form to tag moms.

But I don’t know that I go along with “it’s one thing on a message board.” Why? Because the people you’re crapping on won’t see it? I know this is a hot take, but I’m a firm believer that you should always be respectful and empathetic, regardless of venue. If you’re going to say something in public, it should be something you’re comfortable saying no matter whom you say it to or who hears it. Because these days, nothing is private.

(Disclaimer: I often fall short of this standard. But I keep trying.)

Difference is a family member or player have to intentionally choose to go to message boards and read there. Tagging on social media basically forces them to see it.

It’s a tough balance, but basically agree with this. Be respectful and empathetic. Be nice, etc. This is big-boy hoops, and I think a player’s ability to play it is in bounds. But keep in mind that people are involved.

I’ve said something like this before, but it basically sums up my view and approach. Of all my close friends, family, and even work colleagues: none of them could play ACC hoops. Basically, the people who give my life joy and meaning would all be absolutely awful, terrible, no-good ACC basketball players. So I don’t think it’s disrespectful to say that someone is not very good at ACC hoops.

EDIT - the obvious counter is that if you’re devoting a substantial amount of your energy, time, and being to becoming a good ACC player, and it’s not working out like you hoped, that’s frustrating. And some jamoke pointing it out on LRA seems annoying. Yeah, I’m sure that is annoying…

Watching this Kansas Villanova game and seeing how they operate on both ends and then realizing there is a possibility we will just run back out starting 5 with Reece Kihei in the mover blocker, limited floor spacing, no versatile wing defender in the starting lineup, and our struggles rebounding. fml

Apologies to the board. Just in a really grouchy mood.
