That team was sooooo good.
He had a back issue earlier in the season where he missed a little time. And he looked a bit creaky when he did come back.
I believe Oak also said today that Schoch hadn’t thrown that many pitches in a game since he was around 17.
I think they were being super cautious and wanted to make sure he was completely recovered from his last outing. He was super gassed at the end of the finale against ODU.
That makes sense, and of course hindsight is 20/20 but it worked out find getting him that extra rest. If I recall they mentioned during the ODU series that the 75 pitches was the most he’d thrown during his college career, so Oak is probably correct.
Other interesting note is that we don’t know when Bales can go again but his injury isn’t considered season ending.
I’m quite glad we don’t play again until Sunday. The team has played incredibly well to get here, but the pitching staff went through a meat-grinder. The more rest they get, the better.

Don’t forget that Virginia is the ONLY ACC team to win the College World Series in the last 65 years!
The only other ACC team to ever win a National Championship was Wake Forest in 1955:bangbang: #wahoops (@mattrileyphoto)
Nathan Kirby
Kenny Towns
Josh Sborz
Thomas Woodruff
“Big Game” Brandon Waddell
and friends. What an amazing team!
Unfortunately not true. Wake Forest won it in 1955. The Hoos were the first since then to win it.
For random trivia purposes, Miami has also won four, but they were all pre ACC membership.

CWS going well.
Dream start.
Completely dominant. This is such a likable team.
Great win, and the story about Michael’s dad on Fathers Day was great.
