2021 Signing Class

The 2020 season is in the books with the Hoos opting to pass on a Bowl game, so it’s time to look ahead for 2021. Today marks the early signing period for college football (still not sure how I feel about this split signing days) Anyways the commitments are coming in. Here’s what we know so far, currently 24 have signed today.

Want to note looks to be a good amount of instate talent getting picked up. Also have 2 qb’s locked in. Not surprising is the number of commits on defense.

Sounds like all of our verbal commits have signed. Wonder if there will be any surprise additions. Seems like probably not, but you never know. Although it’s probably more likely we’ll be hitting up the transfer portal in the coming months.

Yup it looks like everything is going according to plan. I don’t anticipate any surprises. That’s not something that usually happens with this early signing window. Honestly it doesn’t make sense either with so much across the college landscape in flux. There are some major jobs that are open or may open up in the next few weeks that could sway a recruit.

Looking at all the videos being tweeted out by the VA football account, two things sprung to kind:

  1. The football team’s social media has taken a big step forward (we knew that already, but still) and I do think it’ll help with recruiting. Love them highlighting each kid individually with their own clip compilation.

  2. It’s always funny to me that when you’re dealing with high school recruits, so many are changing positions going to college so their highlight packages are of them playing completely different roles. It seems like two thirds of the highlights of our incoming line backers are of them making plays as receivers.

It’s interesting like @MaineWahoo said clearly there are a lot of position changes from HS to college, and Bronco and his staff seem to lean into it even more. It’s also interesting looking at the raw stats of the players, a lot the guys seem on the smaller side. A lot of that can and will change as guys grow into their bodies on a college weightlifting program. But it also opens the door for more position changes.
