Watching NC State just get dismantled, I’m kinda doubtful their passing woes are on BA. Yeah, Morris had 4 TDs last week but he also had 3 picks.
Robert Anae is not good at his job.
This postseason ban for teams changing levels is peak NCAA stupidity. It’s cost a couple teams NCAA tourney bids the last few years too.
Also cost Purdue the second ever 1 seed losing to a 16 seed!
FDU was a benefactor of the Merimack fighting’ Minors being barred from postseason.
What’s the original thinking behind that ban anyway?
Agree, but JMU knew going in that those were the rules — just like ODU and Liberty before it.
Off the top of my head, I think it’s something about making sure teams/schools can afford to be in D-1 on their own, or something like that. Like, they don’t want teams just joining to take the paycheck (from a tourney share), and then scooting back down.
And since we already have way way way too many D-1 teams (in hoops), I can’t get too upset about being careful about adding more.
Just read a little bit more – apparently, it’s mostly stability. Apparently, a while back it was easier to join D-1, and they found a lot of teams were up for a year, and then back down.
This is not new
Yup want schools to demonstrate sustainability
No worries, Hokie fans will snap up those tickets
i mean it wasn’t even sold out in 2019 which was 1) pre-COVID, 2) not a dumpster-fire for either team, 3) for the ACC Coastal crown. So i don’t even think of it as a wow.
espn tells me we had 52,600 in attendance that day.
Given the state of both programs not surprised that game is not sold out.
If you click through, looks like lots of available seats.
Welsh had the right idea to move the game away from Thanksgiving weekend. Wish that would have stuck pre-VPI-to-ACC and maybe the schedulers would have kept it that way.
I always thought it would fit best on last weekend of September
I get the drawback of the Thanksgiving weekend with students being gone. But selfishly I always liked it that weekend because as someone who has not lived in Charlottesville in over 20 years I had more of an opportunity to get back.
I am for deemphasizing this game in any way possible. Up to and including see you next neveruary.
That’s the sticky wicket for the Tech game. Thanksgiving is good for Virginia natives and bad for alums from, or with family from, elsewhere.
Given that VPI is tilted more toward Virginia native alums (roughly, right?), Thanksgiving kinda benefits them. I went to most games between 1995 and 2009 or so, but have only been to 2 or 3 VPI games (incl the Joe Gieck game). One of which was down there.
Believe it or not, my family loves me and enjoys my company! (and I love to eat their turkey and gravy and fixings).
Thanksgiving is massively overrated in the way people use that weekend…
