I agree with all of this. For me, that means that any freedom of movement limitations are going to feel unfair because they are imposed on the student-athletes without them having much of a say. And that’s where the myths the NCAA has staked themselves to come in.
Totally agree. If you are going to treat college sports like a business, the primary stakeholder is thus the customer (fans) and not the employee (athletes). Optimize the model for value creation by delivering a good product, then distribute earnings to schools and athletes. Ironically, a student-athlete model should optimize for the individual…but we all have said college sports isn’t that anymore…
Its how pro sports does it for good reason. Constant turnover of rosters dilutes the execution, reduces parity, and minimizes the connection fans have to the players. Its bad business.
Maybe I dont know all the details, but I don’t think Tez ever played at his first school because of COVID. I would say thats a pretty extreme case.
Correct, it’s in the article I linked above.
“he never played at his first school, NC Central, because its season was canceled as a result of the pandemic”
One SMU alum oil tycoon said he would contribute $200 million to help SMU transition to the ACC and called it just a ‘few million dollars’ according to Yahoo Sports. And this is just one dude. Has the ACC tapped into some Texas Oil money?
If SMU has that kind of financial backing then they are a friggin sleeping giant. I remember back in the day that SMU won 10+ SWC titles and that was with Texas in the league.
SMU has always had that sort of money. Similar to TX A&M. SMUs move was absolutely funded by their boosters wanting to get them back in the game and they finally found a way to at least put them on the big stage. If it translates to on the field that’s yet to be seen.
That alum was my 6th grade basketball coach. Haha
The article does say he got a group of wealthy alums for the $200m
NCST is down 10-0 to ND in the 2nd quarter. Armstrong is 4-12 for 29 yards and 1 INT.
Colorado is up 29-7 on Nebraska in the 4th. So far, so good on the Deion experiment.
Apparently Ali Jennings got carted off the field for VT before they had their delay. Feel awful for him and it’s a huge loss, he’s easily their best player on offense.

Before the season I said MJ Morris would have a good chance of winning the job over Armstrong. Might happen a little later than expected but I still stand by that prediction.
Yahoo podcast said that the meeting room held a total net worth of approximately 15 billion and that the deal was made between these guys (who are in the board of SMU) and the board chairs/rectors of the ACC schools as if it were a straight business deal.
I suspect that this could be a good sign against political intervention if we choose to leave the ACC. The move will be led by someone on the board, who is likely a major donor to the then current Governor, and therefore subject to less interference.
Pretty sure the state, and therefore the political establishment, is our biggest donor.
Clearly just my speculation, but I choose to be optimistic on our future conference fate.
Holy crap. Start of second half, Clemson’s up 7 but Charleston Southern has the ball, 24-17. Clemson is a 50.5 point favorite, and the O/U was 54.5. So I guess they were thinking 52/53-2? The over looks safe, but Clemson’s gonna have a tough time covering.
