I probably would have brought in a reliever for this last inning. I know he’s having an amazing game, but we’re up by 10 runs and feels like there’s no need to put extra mileage on the arm. But I also know very little about how these sorts of things are handled these days.

UVa is now 5-1 in Game 3 of a Supers.
79% of Game 1 winners go on to Omaha. The Hoos get to Omaha 67% of the time when they win Game 1, and 80% (!!!) when they lose Game 1.
And this is the sixth trip to Omaha in 14 seasons.

The joy of beating Duke is better every time. The taste of their tears sweeter. I’m thrilled for the guys to punch their ticket to Omaha, but it’s even better to have humiliated Duke to get there.

Edginton’s start to finish pitching performance today was one of the best I’ve seen. The kid just brought it all and the kitchen sink today.

I feel just the opposite. He is a good, tough player. That HBP in the last game might have seated most players. Also, after ?? went into second with cleats up, you could see him joking with ??.
Being a Dookie and good does not automatically make him an unlikable person.
Odd, there was a message on my voice mail from “Klockner visitors side phone” asking me if I could pitch and how long it’d take me to get to Charlottesville.

Haha - it was the antics. He was making shooting motions after the first two UVA batters got out in the first. I actually really love when we have guys who are a little fiery, but it makes me cringe when others do it. I know that makes no sense.

I have a young woman interning for us this summer who went to UVa undergrad (she’s at UF law), but her father went to Duke. She admitted to me deep down that even though she doesn’t like Duke, when they aren’t playing Virginia she has a soft spot for them and is glad when they win. I asked if that soft spot also contained positive feelings for Hitler, Ted Bundy and pedophiles. She left my office with a much better understanding of Duke’s rightful place in the universe and I now consider her internship to have been a valuable learning experience for her - and at whatever her next job is because that admission disqualifies her for a job offer from my firm.
