Why can’t we ever do that? Wake takes the lead
Don’t bring in dudes who keep the ball up. Always good to have a sinker ball specialist or a guy with a splitter — trust you our catcher and keep the ball low to induce grounders. Exactly what Wake did — two groundballs in a row.
Yep
Worth watching: I’m told that several SEC schools (Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, and others) will be big players in the transfer portal. Almost “unlimited” dollars at their disposal.
Was the case last summer. No reason to think it won’t be this summer as well.
This is off Peebles but towards the UVa catching spot. Do you think Anderson moves to catcher or has he basically found his spot for the next level, especially with MLB scouts?
We’re definitely scouting portal and JUCO catchers going back to last fall and continuing now.
I also read some 2024 draft notes that said Anderson does private workouts for scouts at catcher. The gist was that they’re impressive.
Worst case scenario, Anderson is our guy and a first year and/or Tuft back him up.
Best case we add a catcher and Anderson gets to do both. An ironman catcher like Teel was an anomaly for the most part.
Peebles did a lot of DH for NC State so someone like him or similarity accomplished with the bat could split time at catcher, 1B, and DH.
Ah okay, thanks for the info. I gotta admit, I am a huge fan of Anderson. Some will disagree but I think he may have been the best MLB prospect in the program this season. I think he’s gonna be playing baseball a long time.
He, Griff and Teel were our most consistent hitters all season.
Griff will be a very high draft pick if he hits .400 with ~110 hits again. Needs a little work on defensive positioning, but he hits for average, has a good eye, and runs the bases very well.
Scouts are going to love him.
Agree. Love watching Anderson hit. If he gets protection, he will be a monster next season.
The natural portion of my UVA fandom that’s a paranoid doomer does worry about succumbing to the same problem other ACC teams like Dook and Clemson have this offseason, i.e. losing a key contributor to an SEC slush fund. From what I’ve heard our baseball players do VERY well in terms of NIL even if it’s not heavily publicized so hopefully it doesn’t become a problem for us, but watching guys like Amick, Fischer, Peebles and Tommy Tanks leave for what looks to be a massive bag of money does raise concern just a bit.
Unfortunately I think it will only get worse. This year will be more than last, and the cycle will continue. Many of those SEC schools take their baseball as serious as hoops, if not more so. I am not kidding you.
It’s very true.
We lived in Biloxi when Ole Miss & Miss State won, and the sports bars were jam packed for the CWS games. Only people that care about March Madness are out-of-staters, and the casino visitors who are local.
Like 6 different SEC schools have won the CWS in the last 15 years.
The last thing I wanted as a all SEC championship
Might have to get used to it.
And having an ex ACC stud hit the walk off… might as well have just kicked my dog while they were at it
That’s why we need out of the ACC asap
Might not be asap or the sec, but I have a feeling it’s coming.
Florida and LSU going to a deciding Game 3 on Monday night.
LSU won Game 1 on Saturday 4 to 3 in 11 innings.
Florida took out their frustrations today, bludgeoning LSU 24 to 4.
Hmmm… guess he is all rested now.
