So he and Traudt would be sort of a Hunter Tyson-PJ Hall sort of thing, sign me up.
I would only want this if he does in fact have 2 years of eligibility remaining. Seems like the perfect skill set to take a chance on being able to develop and even at worst youāve got a capable athlete and 3-point shooter as a depth piece. 6ā9 guys with that bounce and 3-point shooting donāt grow on trees and we can sell him on Trey Murphy
I donāt want him. Small and feeble looking. Much prefer the Texas Tech kid.
I try not to put too much stock into a guy performing so-so against P6 competition while at a mid-major.
Itās a consideration, but also have to consider their role. More likely for success with Reece at PG, and sharing the court with 3 other guys with pro potential than if youāre the focal point of a P6 defense, with teammates who wonāt play anywhere beyond the Patriot League.
I feel like regardless athleticism and hitting open 3s translates at all levels. And stats dont occur in a vacuum.
OāNeil reminds me of Matthew Mayer.
True, he does nothing for our need of post D and rebounding
I hope he doesnāt like coffee.
Yea I mean if he has 2 years and is essentially an Igor back fill Iām okay with it. Wouldnāt be excited but understand it. If he has one year not sure the appeal unless heās a legit 3 and Armaan + Taine are both gone
I like the part where he yams on a dude.
Last thing Iāll say, since I shouldnāt get too excited either way until we hear more:
- Up-transfers CAN work, but the majority of successful transfers at our level of hoops are coming from our level of hoops. You can see that at the macro level and at the micro level (UVa ā Gill, Hauser, Key, Franklin, etc.).
- Hereās a resource which shows transfers by year, by conference, to get a sense of if any up-transfers from a conference are having a positive impact. And, fwiw, two Patriot league up-transfers did have nice seasons in the Power 5: Funk at Penn St and Cummings at Pitt.
Patriot League Transfers Playing and Sitting Out - RealGM - From the Northeast conference? Iām just not seeing a good precedent. Doesnāt mean we wonāt find the exception, but it does mean we should probably temper expectationsā¦
I think itās just impossible for me to say who I do or donāt want at this point. Mostly since we donāt know departures right now. Because as of rn, I donāt want anybody assuming everyone is back. If any guys leave then Iāll have a better idea of who and what I want.
You really canāt evaluate a āgoodā prospect for us unless you evaluate what we have coming back. Is Traudt primarily a 5? Not sure. Can Bond shoot / handle well enough to be a quality wing for us? Not sure. Will Dunn rediscover the perimeter shooting touch he was purported to have as a recruit? Who knows. IMac is the only one of that class we āknowā who he is.
Who is coming back? Will Beeks be back? Will Kadin be able to stand up better to physical play in the paint IF he returns? Will Armaan be back? Will Gertie be ready for any PT next season?
Itās a lot to process, but I feel like weāll need a physical athlete with some meat on the bones in the post for defense if nothing else. I also think we need a wing who can shoot. If we lose Beeks, weāll be in desperate need of help at the point.
I donāt feel like a 6ā7" āfourā man who doesnāt bring some exceptional skills is a need right now. Dunn / Bond have that covered.
6ā9. 40% from 3. Draws bigs away from the paint for Reece to drive. Also pulls away rebounders
Since guard play wins march, im all for anyone who makes it easier for the guards to make plays getting downhill
Oh no people are actually saying Gertie now. I feel responsible.
Not opposing this guy, but I think weāll have that with Traudt, too. We really need a big that can defend the paint.
Iāll use it, but I donāt think itās the right nickname for him. āGertieā is a nickname for a 6ā7" 245 pound forward with a 2 foot shooting range.
A lineup of Reece/IMac/OāNeil/Dunn/Traudt next year (if everyone comes back). Have Harris, Franklin and Gertrude as your guard depth, Bond and Murray as your wing depth, and Sheds and BB as your frontcourt depth.
I know Iām getting way ahead of myself with the wishful thinking and I honestly donāt care.
I think if āGertieā catches on, Gertie gonna be gone
I feel like youāre the guy going to Fogo de Chao and filling up on the bread and salad bar. Those skewers of delicious meat are still coming out! You donāt have to fill up on the fried dough they put out to distract you!
(I know, I know, Iām not in the proper spiritā¦)
