Well the problem with this is that we’ve been doing it since 2019. We are not going to compete for a national championship if our top HS recruits are not sticking around and we have to replace them with guys from Ohio and ECU. That’s not going to cut it. Thought that was obvious this year.
At this point I would never redshirt anybody again outside of injury. Even if players and families agree up front. Because they resent it after the fact when they are playing well in practice and feel left out. It’s just human nature. I mean look how everybody resents the ACC contract now. Everybody thought it was great at the time. Now we know it sucks. Same thing with redshirting. Sounds great at the time but after you get into it you find out you hate it.
Cannot do it (redshirt) in the new environment of college basketball. There are too many options available for the guys and now if you are highly rated there is easy money available too. We have to adapt to the new landscape.
If Fish leaves, I’ll be devestated. But why am I SO MUCH SMARTER THAN 19 yos? You’re in a dream class in a dream program. You can be a national champion in 2 years as a star.
I’ll be more than devastated. It will set our program back quite a bit
I won’t be more than devastated. I have a few other—less interesting—interests
Devastated? Really? There’s plenty of fish in the sea. Next man up mentality is the reality of college basketball now. Teams now need a coach and GM.
Hold on so there was Traudt smoke coming from the UVA side @XHoo ?
I’m sure he’s talking about the radio guy from Nebraska
Just out of Omaha. That one caught my attention only because how definitive it was.
I, for one, will miss him.
I’m disappointed, potatoes are very underrated in how they complement fish. I was very excited for that entree.
I never thought the decision to red shirt was all, or even mostly Traudt’s. Him leaving makes me think it probably was.
Is this the same Omaha radio host rumor that’s circulated around every UVA forum?
Keep 4 years to navigate?
I am just going to throw it out there that if Shedrick and Traudt transfer out following a season in which BVP played 25 minutes a night, some serious questions need to be asked. Personal feelings aside (would be really aggravated to put it mildly) that isn’t something that can just be hand waved away.
Not in a position to know off court work ethic or whatever, but trading Shedrick minutes in favor of BVP minutes on the merits was dubious enough on its own. Lose fourth and fifth year Shedrick minutes on top of it and Traudt to boot, well…
Somebody would have to help me on the math. Multiple years of Traudt + two years of veteran Shedrick < one year of BVP? Yeah, going need someone to show their work.
I’d love to have Shedrick back but Tony just doesn’t bench somebody like that without cause.
The team cannot redshirt a top 100, let alone top 50, guy anymore. Those players need to be available and practicing for playing time. If they don’t see the court that’s fine (think JAR), but they have to have the opportunity to earn the minutes. In this new era of college athletics we as a team and a fan base have to exit the mindset of four and five year players. We will be lucky to have half of our scholarship players for the full run. That makes me sad but it’s just the way it is.

Wonder if unc LRA is melting down.
