For me 2016-17 might be the biggest “what if” season ever. Not a single injury like Othell in ‘82, or if Cory had been 100% in ‘95, or DeAndre in ‘18. But the entire season.
What if we had given Thompson’s minutes to Ty & Kyle?
What if we hadn’t redshirted DeAndre, and given him Reuter’s minutes?
The biggest of all…what if Nichols hadn’t screwed up, and played the role that was expected?
That season could have been a lot different, but we still managed a 5 seed and advanced to the 2nd round.
Thompson hit 45% from the field and 35% from three. 2.2-1 assists to turnovers, a steal a game, more length and quicks defensively, he wasn’t an issue — and his 20 minutes/game had no effect on the development of either Jerome or Guy.
Reece was the only guy who could stay in front and stop him…without fouling…also don’t see the Duke kid getting that close to the rim in a real 5v5 session against us… without it getting poked away by someone…Reeces tape was damn good…glad he is back
Yeah, Thompson got pushed aside by Guy but his numbers were a lot better than I remembered.

Coby White kicked off the run of shoot-first UNC PGs with one-and-done aspirations. I’m not sure that has actually been worth it for them as a program.

I’ve come to expect that kind of defense from Reece. But his craftiness around the basket and the confidence in the little fallaway jumper seem new. If he’s truly added those to his arsenal, he’s going to be incredible this year.
