2023 UVa Offseason Chatter

Hard to argue with their UVA write up. Best summary I’ve seen from a national writer tbh

In general I agree. I think Duke/UM/UNC/UVA/Clemson make the tournament. I think 2 teams from the middle either make it or are right on the bubble, I would favor at this point WF/VT to be those.

I also think BC could sneak into tier 3.

Not so sure about BC. Who do they have besides Post and Aligbe? JZ is inconsistent at best.

Smart dude right there

I found this amusing:

Curtis is a former NBA strength and conditioning coach, and his PowerPoint presentation on the science behind his training methods wowed Bliss.

“Obviously, I didn’t understand a ton,” Bliss said, “but you know when someone knows what they’re talking about, and when they’re serious about their stuff, and that attracted me a lot.”

It reads like Dr. MC practiced his dissertation defense with him.

Here’s what I’ve got for BC this year, someone correct me if I’m missing anyone:

POS - Player (Class) 2022-23 Stats
Returners G Jaeden Zackery (JR) 33 G, 33.2 mpg, 10.7 ppg, 2.7 apg, 32% 3P%
G/F Mason Madsen (SR) 33 G, 21.2 mpg, 5.8 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 30% 3P%
SF Chas Kelley (SO) 30 G, 14.7 mpg, 2.9 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 29% 3P%
F Devin McGlockton (RS SO) 33 G, 17.5 mpg, 6.1 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 50% 3P%
F Prince Aligbe (SO) 27 G, 21.2 mpg, 6.1 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 27% 3P%
F/C Armani Mighty (SO) 16 G, 4 mpg, 0.7 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 30% FG%
C Quinten Post (SR+) 19 G, 25.7 mpg, 15.1 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 54% FG%
Additions G Fred Payne (3-star FR)
G Claudell Harris (JR Transfer, Charleston Southern) 30 G, 31.2 mpg, 17.4 ppg, 2.3 apg, 33% 3P%
SF Donald Hand (3-star RS FR) 2 G, 7 mpg, 2.5 ppg, 2 rpg, 50% 3P%
F/C Elijah Strong (3-star FR)
C Jayden Hastings (3-star FR)

I like Jaeden Zackery, had a really promising freshman year though did struggle with efficiency as a sophomore. Claudell Harris was 2nd Team All-Big South and should take over some of the backcourt scoring load. Aside from McGlockton, not really sure I’m confident where the floor spacing is coming from. And not sure either Zackery or Harris are up to being a pass-first PG, so maybe they need one of the youngsters to grow fast into that role. Defense was adequate last year, but needs to improve, especially on the glass (where trying to hide Post in a zone does them no favors boxing out crashing forwards and wings), and they gave up too many open 3s.

This is an NIT team if a lot of things work out for them, but that’s probably their ceiling.

Ty Jerome is my all time favorite Hoo, but getting some major TJ vibes from Bliss.

He already seems to fit in so well!! You are right - seems like really good head on his shoulders. Love the comment about his competitive nature and his growth as a leader and good teammate. He will have his own path- but lots of parallels to Ty!!

Is always positive when the HS Coach speaks so glowingly about a guy’s character etc

Love it

I agree I think this team COULD be an NIT team which would be the best season in years for them. I like Earl Grant but it seems almost impossible to imagine BC as an NCAA team again. They should have never fired Al Skinner that started the decline. I thought BC may breakout a bit last year but never really did, except against us of course. I think it could happen this year to a degree. We shall see if it doesnt, it could put Grant on the clock.

Been thinking about coming to Scott to see a football game this year – first in 15 or so years – but I’m really tempted to just avoid the crowds and jacked up hotel rates, and do this instead.

It’s the epidemy of a no brainer

Epidemy (n, archaic). See:epidemic.

Another year, another cycle of planet earth rotating around the sun in this seemingly infinitely big universe. Which means another opportunity to complain about the Blue White scrimmage not being streamed.

I’ve timed an October trip back from Texas to see the Scrimmage before. No regrets.
