Get everyone to CVille in June and play some old school pick up with Ty and Dre etc. Kyle has a camp down there too. Hopefully Devon London etc all be back
They announced the U19 womenās camp a couple of days ago, and they play in July as well, so the menās camp announcement must be coming soon.
Yup, saw that when I googled, too. The nice thing about recruiting so many international guys for a while is we got a nice mid-summer check-in (with FIBA, etc.).
I guess Iāll have to be satisfied with NBA playoffs, and then my favorite NBA product ā the summer league, for a couple months. Plus some janky AAU streams.
Weāll also get the snazzy edit instagram āsummer workā videos soon which we can spend a few weeks analyzing
Yeah now that the Celtics have decided to go home earlyā¦
Good start, but Iād go further and ban secondary defenders from drawing charges. I want the rules to incentivize contesting shots rather than falling over.
I respectively disagree with all this charge taking slander. haha The way the game is going with all the ball screen/iso play the last thing I want is to give players more reason to barrel into the paint. Hard enough to defend already.
Fair enough. I think it would have to come with some pretty aggressive enforcement of offensive player push offs, I still want to reward the primary defender for beating their guy to the spot. To put it another way, I want a similar number of charges, but I want them to happen in a different way thatās a little safer and looks more like good defense.
Tackling moving screens would be another knob they could twist to find a good offense-defense balance.
The charge discussion is so odd. I hear on the playoffs how they talk about how charges can injure offensive plays - but the offensive players have agency. A lot of things can cause injury in basketball if you donāt have any awareness or donāt encourage awareness. What is dangerous is the offensive players being rewarded for getting a full head of steam and recklessly throwing themselves down the lane without any concern.
Charges and screens are two of the things that could really help add defense back into the nba. The amount of extracurricular grabbing, moving, and shoving on screens is insane and I hope that doesnāt trickle to the college game
They do this now and then a guy slides over at the last minute underneath them.
Just get rid of the non-basketball play charges - sliding under a guy. Push offs should still exist in legal guarding position.
Yes and what Iām saying is the recklessly barreling down the lane is there with or without the charge call. So all you are doing is creating a vicious cycle where offensive players put themselves in risky, out of control situations and the rules are bent at the detriment of defense
I dunno, itās a lot less risky if thereās not guy coming underneath you. Itās the defender that creates the most risk in that situation.
But I donāt think safety stuff is the most compelling argument. Itās mostly that the sliding under charge is a lame hack in the game - basically an accidental cheat code for worse teams.
I want to adopt the Mark Titus suggestion.
To get a charge you have to not cover your nuts.
-
Because thatās not a Bball play
-
You should be willing to get kicked in the nuts if you want a charge call
Ha Iād love to watch a new rule like that get implemented. utter chaos and comedy.
So this probably means refs would call a lot more blocking fouls in November then slowly revert back to the old way throughout the rest of the season.
Nothing we donāt really already know I guess, but a quick scholarship recap article from SI:
Also the graphic up top is pretty cool
If Dante can be Bub Evans with a 33-35% 3 point shot, weāll be fine next year even if Reece doesnāt come back.
It took me a minute to identify which new players were which. Throw in Dante, itās going to make for a frustrating year for the more casual fans who donāt keep up with the offseason.
