UVa ranked 95 out of 133 teams by The Athletic after Week 2.
Northwestern and Boston College the only P5 teams ranked lower. VT ranked #89 fwiw.

So they arenāt the worst. Not bad Iāll take it.
I think the next couple of games are pretty importantā¦if you can steal one from Maryland or NC State (both better than JMU but not great) and take care of business with BC and W&M then youāre at .500 before going into the bye.
@UNC and @Miami await the other side of the bye where goal should be to stay healthy.
We then have a narrow path to bowl eligibility assuming 3-5 at this point where maybe fans still engaged. Winnable games against GT, tough (but maybe doable) against Louisville, loss to Duke and a Hokie showdown.
Jmu defeat hurts but next couple of games could breathe new life.
Those are some very orange and blue glasses you have on but I get it. There is a path. And honestly I still donāt know what this team is other than a bad oline. Saturdayās game was such an outlier due to the UVA Strong emotions and then a rain delay. It created a strange atmosphere to work through. Similarly week 1 was an outlier because they were playing an away game against Tennessee.
There is a path to success and even thriving, but there is zero room for error along the way. And theyāll need to catch a few breaks
To add to the QB controversy that may be brewing:
Not even the worst in the ACC! Cooking with gas!
HEY! Iāve spent MONTHS ruthlessly crushing my optimism. Iāll be entertaining no hope from you, thank you very much.
Colandrea about to be the first person in college football histroy to throw 350+ yards and then not start the next game while being perfectly healthy.
āUVA football: Youād think by this point weād have run out of new ways to trip over our own feet, but nope.ā
Seriously Colandrea becoming ACC Rookie of the week Top 5 in the country in passing for the and all the other stuff and then walking into a QB controversy the next week is the Most UVA athletics thing ever.
Just wait until he mid season transfers to an SEC school
The ball placement and timing on these throws ⦠Hoo was the last Hoo who had consistently good ball placement on throws?
Might have to go back 20 years.
Worth noting, the kid probably just had the game of his life and itād be a little premature to assume he can do this game after game. However, the play at about 1:35 where he does sort of a 3/4 arm slot fling while scrambling was the kind of gamer throw you canāt teach.
Agreed. Thatās not the kind of game weād see from him the rest of the year. With that being said, I think this is what we would see from him every game his junior year.
Different kind of player. But he reminds me a lot of freshman year Zach Wilson at BYU.
Colandrea could be good enough to save Tonyās job IF we can get a good OL put together. Iām just worried that we have some guys that bigger programs will want and trying to sell them on sticking around after a 2 win season might not be the easiest feat
Edit - this is FUTURE OL by the way. I see no path to a competent OL by end of this year but hopefully we can see some continuity into next year
Tangential point, and not really the main reason our OL currently stinks, but feels like UVaās transfer restrictions and UVaās lagging NIL situation really hurts us on the OL, and will probably continue to hurt us if anyone popsā¦
I think Colandrea has a world of opportunity in front of him and is very talented. I do agree that Saturday may have been a bit of an outlier for him but from what I saw the upside is certainly enough to explore.
The drawbacks are the Oline is trash and no one can play behind it.
Also all the conversation has been about the offense and how they played on Saturday. It was the D that gave up 12pts unanswered and 30 yrds in penalties on the final drive that led to a blown coverage and the game winning score. That D aināt as stout as we like to think it is.
I think I get very frustrated by the OL because that feels like something you can do well if you develop properly. Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, BYU, Stanford arenāt bringing in 5 stars with NIL packagesā¦. Just get dudes, get them big, and teach them scheme and fundamentals of the position.
Doesnāt help that weāre in our second straight year of breaking in 4 new starters
