2023 Virginia Football

Muskett came out of HS in 2020. FCS teams played their COVID-shortened seasons in the spring of 2021 that academic year, so that’s his freebie year (you could probably also call it a redshirt year if you want because he only played 4 games, but the net result is the same). He played two full seasons in fall of 2021 and fall of 2022 before transferring, both of which count against his eligibility, so he had two years of playing remaining upon arriving at UVA, this season (2023) and next (2024). Re: his academics, he only did 2.5 years at Monmouth since he transferred halfway through his academic junior year, so clear to say he needs time to finish his degree and is quite probably on a 5-year plan due to the credits issue.

He’s a true freshman going up against a veteran experienced transfer. You really knocking a college quarterback who isn’t ready as a true freshman? Name me one non-blue chip QB who was ready to beat out veterans as a true frosh? Even Michael Vick, who was a Heisman finalist his first year playing, redshirted first.

Not knocking him knocking the scenario that fans are obsessed with creating. So nxt yr he’s a 2nd yr with 3 starts basically a RS fr. We assuming these desperate mid tier big 10 12 and Acc schools don’t have any one on their roster or a recruit beyond a mid tier 3 star?

Again not knocking the kid but trying to look at it through non orange n blue lens

It’s like UVa fans have this weird need for AC to transfer to vindicate something. I don’t get it.

Another year of Muskett is a good thing, not a bad thing. He’s the better QB, despite playing injured, and will continue to be the better QB next year. I just hope he can stay healthy enough to stay on the field.

Plus his name is Tony Muskett. I mean come on

And I guess if it happens you’ll be saying “you got your wish.”

Understanding the reality of our situation doesn’t mean that’s what we’re hoping for. I certainly don’t need vindication for my views.

The reality is that we have a shit football program that has little fan support and the outlook is dismal. Not hard to poach promising talent from that situation.

Look at our team. How much would it help to have more quality backups, even if that quality is questionable, if at least they have some D-1 quality highlights to show upside?

Any OC worth his salt wants four scholarship QBs with D-1 upside on their rosters for (a) competition and (b) injury depth, preferably spaced out in classes for (c) succession planning / pipeline building. AC is not going to get an offer to come be a guaranteed starter somewhere, no, obviously not. But he could get an offer to come compete for backup spots or be a part of an open spring competition, and maybe that’s enough for him if it’s otherwise a winning, healthy, stable program under good coaches that may also have a nicer NIL platform. And maybe that’s enough for him to give up QB-of-the-future status at UVA that’s honestly not all that guaranteed anyways since by the time Muskett graduates he’s 95% likely to have a new OC who may want to go in an entirely different direction with the QB position anyways.

I’m not rooting for AC to leave. I’m just saying I think it’s as likely as not that he has to seriously consider it. Some OC somewhere is gonna see some highlights of his better throws against Maryland and NC State and say “yeah, I can coach him up.”

Really this all comes down to coach Elliot’s failure to start Taine Murray at left tackle.

I hear you. And just to be clear in your scenario AC is taking NIL money to go

You do provide that maybe that is enough for him and if it is so be it, but I’d also say if that’s enough for him, to simply be a part of something then maybe he’s not the one you want running your program.

I’m not denying that it’s possible and maybe even probable that AC goes. I’m frankly just sick of the sky is falling UVA fan outlook for every sport. That more than anything is wearing me out.

I’m also tired of obsessing over a kid who is 0-3 with a 61.8% completion rate (better than I thought) for 923 yards 5 TDs 6ints (yikes even for a freshman) and a QBR of 72. Also you can hang a large part of the NC State loss on him. The kid has potential, but it aint like the Hoos have Johnny Menziel or Jamis Winston in their prime roaming the sidelines as some have alluded to here.

The Bronco is strong in you.

I was with a bunch of Gamecocks friends at the game. Total meltdown by Martinez. Hagans should have been used in a wildcat or something. Anything.

Me too. I was actually in a luxury box and the only Wahoo there. To add insult to injury, my host got hammered and I had to drive his SUV back to Greenville after the game.

O-Line Commitment. Alexander Reisig picks Virginia over Towson, Bryant, Sacred Heart and Eastern Michigan.

At least Sewell gave us the final Orange Bowl game. UVa football might suck for a long time but we’ll always have 48-0

Take that, Sacred Heart!

OL futility locked in for the forseeable.

Seemingly a tale as old as time.
