Spoke with an Oregon fan who feels pretty confident in the smoke that Kwame Evans Jr is going to portal back east this spring. Itās weird because his career would be considered a disappointment for a top 10 high school recruit but for a 3-4 year college player heās really damn good even in his limited minutes
I would put him the āgotta have himā group along with Donald Hand Jr and Bryce Lindsay as guards I definitely think we should target to replenish the roster.
Apparently Georgetown is already tampering hard with Isaiah Coleman to the point where it may be predetermined come March.
Why no shot? Heās an interesting player, super high usage and reasonably efficient. Heās the center on their team but creates a lot with the ball in his hands; highlights show that he runs a lot of dribble handoffs from the perimeter and then will take his man off the bounce. Doesnāt shoot the three much. Probably not great defensively, at least not as the main center. But maybe you could use him kinda like Danny Wolf at Michigan?
If we truly are losing Rohde and blowing it up blowing it up with everyone else leaving. (and assuming Odom and how he has built his current VCU team).
Silas Demary Jr
Donald Hand Jr
TyRell Ward or Daniel Skillings or Kaleb Banks (as a jumbo wing)
Tobi Lawal or Kaleb Banks
Kwame Evans Jr
Bryce Lindsay first guard off the bench
and go get David Punch or British Mamadi (Bamgboye) and Keep Robinson
Get Chance Mallory back on board and flip Kareem Stagg as a redshirt/long term piece
edit: also controversial take. I want to keep Christian Bliss. He made the right decision given he was coming off a foot surgery in a wasted season where he would probably reinjure the foot guarding centers
Kinda interesting that when looking at our roster and looking at what will be available, the two harder to replace players in my mind are Rohde and Robinson.
Rohde for his vision: only players that come close that we could get are Rowan Brumbaugh and keeping Christian Bliss.
And none of the bigs in the portal excite me nearly as much as the long term potential of Anthony Robinson.
McKneely you have both Bryce Lindsay and Donald Hand Jr (and tbh we should be doing everything we can to get both).
Cofie and Saunders replacements might be more difficult but Kwame Evans Jr and Donovan Freeman come to mind. A skilled forward like Amani Hansberry and David Punch also make sense. Of course dropping a bag for Reed Bailey also works. Kaleb Banks could be a monster
Buchanan Rim protector potential types you have British Mamadi, Rafael Castro, Kaleb Banks has good stocks, and Tobi Lawal is a monster athlete that just needs to be coached up to channel it into blocks and steals better.
Dai Dai: you have more Downhill guards like Demary Jr, Seth Trimble (in my ideal scenario you keep Rohde and use him to get Seth Trimble on board), Jizzle James
Yeah if we blow up the roster, we definitely should be looking into the Rowan Brumbaugh and Kaleb Banks duo package out of Tulane.
And both fan bases (Indiana and Georgetown) were disappointed by them transferring out: Banks because of his potential and misuse by Woody and Brumbaugh while a defensive sieve had a solid first year at Georgetown
More end of bench top 100 recruits should transfer down to mid Major and ball out/build confidence with in game reps.
