There’s also a ā€œProtect your rosterā€ page LMAO

Also apparently JJ Mandaquit’s dad was fired from Utah Prep cause he didn’t commit to BYU (and so he left the team as well)

Would you care to translate what this is?

Player gets sponsored by the sight. Fans of schools can pledge money. If the recruit commits to a certain school, they get the money pledged to them by the fans of that school, while the fans of the losing schools get a refund.

Ament is going to announce tomorrow that he is a sponsor athlete for them.

So it’s just fans directly bidding on recruits? Wow. What a time.

Can’t wait to get texts from Will Wade that are like ā€œFor the next 12 hours I’ll be matching all fan contributions two to one! Donate now!ā€

I would’ve given 25 bucks for Flagg to play anywhere but Duke

This is all pennies to the whale donors that are more openly joining the college sports bidding wars now.

Right on cue:

Huh. This kind of thing seems like it would have no chance passing through the proposed NIL clearinghouse, as they aren’t even really pretending to be marketing something. But who knows.

No, I think this is the textbook definition of exploitation of NIL rights. The site is using the players’ NIL to attract users who will be exposed to advertising on the site. The users may also need to register for the site, giving the site their personal information. The users may also have to pay a fee or the site may keep a percentage of the pledges.

Surely that business model is cooked once the House settlement goes into effect over the summer?

No surprise no uva in Aments top 11. Regardless of coach its a $2 million plus bidding war

With the coaching change, I’m at peace with it.

But for that… 2 million sounds like a bargain to get a local kid with that ceiling. We spent what? 50+ million for a building to put some weights for the football players?

Plus. 2 million is like starting point lol

My earnest thought is that it’s a bummer to miss out on him. I know nothing about the money side.

He’s a local kid. Warrenton, right? On the central VA side of NoVa, but I don’t know the boundaries anymore.

He’s in more or less the exact mold of guys we’ve been putting in the NBA, even though they weren’t 5-stars: Dre, TM3, Hauser, RD, maybe even AG.

Last time I checked, I think his dad is or was a literal missionary. With quotes from Teilhard de Chardin or someone like that in his socials. He and Soddie coulda discussed theology (probably wouldn’t have agreed, but agreeing is overrated)

Anyway, life goes on.

I wonder how the market value of 5 star recruits will settle if the revenue sharing arrangement does end up being a de facto salary cap (I am not sure it will, but let’s assume for the moment). Guys like Flagg and Dylan Harper seem obviously worth whatever they are getting. But a proven power conference upperclassman like Chucky Hepburn probably has a bigger impact on winning that season than the guys outside the top-5 or so. Dunno if their salaries are comparable.

And there’s the huge wildcard about how much folks will push the envelope on traditional NIL, post-House, if we ever get there.

The Rutgers situation (barring a miracle turnaround) will give payors pause about heavily investing in even top-level frosh, but I still think the right 5-star guy in the right context, can be a difference maker: Flagg, Castle, being two recent examples and top of mind

I don’t think the House settlement limits legit outside income. It really can’t and also abide by the Supreme Court decisions.
