šŸŽ¾ 2024-25 Tennis

We had them on the ropes repeatedly and they kept digging out of it. Some good defensive tennis on the Tennessee side and we couldnā€™t find winners. Relieved to have survived that

I always get stressed out watching college tennis because they donā€™t play adsā€¦ sucks when to battle back from love-40 to lose on the next point.

Yeah Aulia at #2 for Tennessee was incredibly tough to score on. Very passive game, just stalling and waiting for Ziodato to either put one past her or make a mistake.

Ha - thatā€™s the way I usually play and usually works ā€¦
Coming from Basketball I had to get used to the fact that when you miss a shot in tennis, it goes in the opponents hoop automatically ā€¦no chance to play defense.

My 11 year old daughter had a match last night and she is very passive tooā€¦ sits on the baseline. I tell her all the time that someone is going to win an entire game against her with drop shots. Last night was the nightā€¦ 4 drop shots in a row. She just stared at me after the game and I just shruggedā€¦

The amazing thing about the whole thing wasā€¦ the kid who she was playing didnā€™t play a single drop shot the remainder of the match and my daughter won 4-2, 4-2 (UTR youth league match). I wanted to go up to him and ask why as he had found her Achilles heel. Kids thought processes always an enigma.

Yeah - Iā€™m not passive like that - I come to the net a lot - I just donā€™t go for winners close to lines or over hit much.

Never played any actual tennis. Weā€™ve gotten to enjoy pickleball though. I stand right up against the kitchen so Iā€™m sure Iā€™d be close to the net in tennis too.

No this is the way. Was my approach when I played competitively - get every ball back, drag your opponent down in the mud with you, and turn each match into a contest of who is willing to suffer the most.

Relatedly I kept a copy of Brad Gilbertā€™s ā€œWinning Uglyā€ next to my bed as a teen.

4-3 win over UNC (after losing the doubles pointā€¦ and Ziadato had to fend off match point before winning a third-set tiebreak).

On to #1-seed UGA in the semis.

Semifinals are underway. Weā€™re about to lose the doubles point.

I think itā€™s a pretty good accomplishment to reach the semis with no Chervinsky. Lots of knock on effects of losing your best player, from having to scramble with doubles teams to everyone playing up a spot.

Men are opening up the Team Indoor Champs against Michigan today:

Currently down 1-2 after losing the doubles point and a singles match, but got a win at #2 to get on the board, and are up in all of the remaining singles matches.

Jodar levels it at 2 with a win at #1 singles. The first year is a beast.

#3: Hopper up a set, was up a break (1-0) in the second but facing break points.
#5: Dahlberg up a break in the 3rd set (3-1).
#6: Kim up a set but will have to break at 5-6 to stay in the second set.

Dahlberg one game away from clinching for us.

Dahlberg got broke but still up 5-3, and now Hopper up 5-2 in his second set. Looking good, letā€™s close it out.

Quarterfinal underway

Gonna have to do it the hard way. Won the doubles point but only won 2 of 6 first sets.

Edit: 3 of 6. The slightly less hard way.

3 of 6 I think. Rice, Jodar, and Hopper all won their first sets.

Kim just went down in two sets so score now tied at 1.
