I mean we want to show we’re good host to the 45k Hokies in attendance

And there’s another OL with a knee injury, too. Perhaps not as serious as Mills’ but also still too early to tell.

We are jinxed

I believe this is Wyatt, right? The JMU transfer. I think he’s recovering from a freak knee injury suffered two seasons ago (missed all of last season as a result). He’s sitting out the spring as part of the rehab path back to playing this fall. But they aren’t sure what the long-term looks like just yet.

Didn’t hear the name, just that it was another lineman with a bad wheel.

Not to be the pessimist but this season needed to go perfectly for Elliott to have a chance IMO. The Mills loss makes that unlikely.. expecting another coaching search soon

Eh, I think they overloaded on O-line a bit to compensate for this. A couple of these guys had injury concerns. The schedule is pretty easy, and our admin’s expectations are low. I still fully expect Elliott to limp out 6 wins and stick around.

Mills is a huge loss, but we should still have a dramatically improved O-line with against an easier schedule.

For the record, I think it would be a mistake to continue the Elliott era off of 6 wins this season (and it was last year, and probably the year before, and so on), but I have absolutely no expectation of them making a move off of it.

I hope we’ve either won 8-9 (we’re not!) or are doing a coaching search tbh.

Minimum expectation should be 7+ wins and 28+ points per game on offense. He’s going to sink or swim based on the roster — and coaching staff — he put together.

Thoughts? I’m probably alone on this but I dig it.

I hope that we will one day need more reserved seating! That would be a great sign.

So we could have even more empty bleachers? Don’t we have enough? How many do you need?

But in all seriousness, if they ever mess with the hill (this seems like an obvious joke) I’ll be pretty annoyed. It was fun as a student. I imagine for the students that still go, it’s fun. If we’re ever good again, it’ll be pretty fun again. Go do one of the eleven thousand other things on the to-do list for making our team and game day experience not suck before you mess with the hill.

I think this is the best case scenario that any coach would embrace. In basketball its easier because you can turn over a roster in an offseason. Football has a few more parts. I’m a TE supporting but if he can’t pull out 7 wins this yr then its time to find someone who will.

Are they taking my advice for stadium upgrades? Finally

I fully expect Elliott to be here in 2026 with 6 wins. Maybe even 5. He’s signed through 2027, so it costs less to keep him and even declining attendance doesn’t hit the P&L as much as paying 2 coaching staffs does.

I don’t expect a contract extension for anything short of 9 wins though. Coaching contract length remaining has ceased to matter in recruiting.

Even if we have 2 more dismal years, there’s still enough time to turn things around enough to keep the P2 interested for the 2030 realignment.

I think elliott will need to bowl to be the head coach in 2026.
