Each, I forget about Worley, but I still would have made the commitment to him as a PG lead guard type, not an off ball 2.
Anybody would take a veteran 5th year player for bench depth if heāll buy into that, thatās what that is.
I think itās time to just accept that Tony put together a mediocre roster and this team was never going to be great even if Warley or Bliss were playing. It would have been better if they were and maybe Tony could have willed us to another bubble appearance and the chance to get blown out by Tarleton State in prime time (oh what could have been!), but this clearly wasnāt going to be a great year.
The thing Iām also starting to wonder though is if this team would even be particularly good with another year. It was billed by Tony as a two-year plan. But man, I donāt know. Just feels like another island of misfit toys team like so many since 2019.
Letās time stamp that sentiment and see how much he is playing this time 2026
I could totally see this team being very good next year if things had worked out at PG⦠if Bliss simply lived up to his ranking as a 2nd year frosh ( think 75%) as good as 2nd year Jerome or Perrantes and then next year would be fully operational with a microwave freshman off the bench at either guard spot in Mallory?
A dynamic PG situation makes this team at least 60 spots better in Net and also if Blake had been 25% better than last year this year translating to be another25% better next year.
Its not that hard to imagine this:
Bliss next year being a very solid top 4 Acc PG.
Saunders being 2nd team Acc.
Cofie being 3rd team Acc level.
iMac not being smothered.
Gertrude not being contained by anyone.
Mallory scoring 8 points a game in fire bursts!
Iāll say it like this - how good we be right now simply replacing any of Ames, Bliss or Rohde with 5th year - all grown man Reece??
You summed it up perfectly. I was really invested pre season when CTB was in the fold and bought in to the 2 year plan. But now that Iāve seen the product on the court, even without CTB, Iām not sure it was ever going to be more than a 8/9 seed type of roster,
Donāt care if the whole thing gets blown up personally, even though Iāll miss certain players of course
Warley will probably play about 10-15 minutes on a good team, thatās the role he should be in. For him itās his bonus yearā¦he wants to get paid and play on a winning team.
I want to give Andrew Rohde a shout-out. I wanted him forced off the team in spring. Heās currently our most complete guard. In an ideal scenario heās still a 6th man/first guard off the bench and not a pg but he isnāt anywhere close to the top of issues with this yearās team
This makes me so happy and why have I not made that connection before. I dont ever want to say Rohde again just want that pic to show up in its place.
Aint that some BS
Why didnāt he just enter the portal in the 30 day window?
Gonna be writing our NIL deals a little differently after this Bliss situation.
Good on Preston (or whoever asked) to press the issue a little.
There it is Bliss quiet quiting.
Chalk it up as a learning experience and move on
Exactly.
I kind of think he is genuinely open to returning to UVA based on what the coaching situation looks like. Otherwise, youāre right, he probably would have just hit the portal.
Still odd nonetheless.
Not 100% on the timing, but I think HGN mentioned that he had some kind of foot setback early in the season, and that might have been after the 30 days? So maybe during that window, he thought heād be able to contribute this season, but then a medical redshirt only seemed viable after the window? I might be mixing up the timeline though.
In addition to being annoying for fans, it just doesnāt seem like a good idea to sit a full 2 years. And itās not like he was some super hot commodity out of HS. Nice recruit, yes. But he hasnāt played hoops in a year and a half.
Makes me think itās not purely strategicā¦
