🏀 2024/25 Virginia Men's Hoops In-Season Thread

If the team is cool with it and it’s not a distraction for them, I say just let it ride. At that point it’s only a distraction to the fans.

Unless they all think he sucks as a player, in which case it would be largely moot.

Kinda off topic: anyone know a guy named Richard Brewer? Selling tix to a bunch of games on FB. Priced fairly and logically. But there’s no protection people to people if it’s fraudulent.

Trying to get to the VT game.

This update was tough to take. Tough to read. Tough to stomach.

On a team that is dying for quality point guard play, and it’s basically an “open position”, our second year point guard is choosing eligibility and money over contribution. That’s hard to swallow for me.

As a former player in an era where players faked being healthy just to play, we have now swung the other way where players are (allegedly) faking injury to get paid and retain eligibility.

Disclaimer: This post is null and void if he’s actually injured, but the fact that the doctors and trainers have cleared him means that he’s healthy. In my opinion.

I can remember so many players from my era playing hurt for long stretches of the season during my time just to get on the court. John Crotty. Bryant Stith. . Kenny Turner, who basically played on one leg for three years to contribute at a high level.

Lots of others to mention (too many), including Fresh who had a great game after getting his appendix removed like 4 days before a big game. (I used to tell him in practice that he had a really good shot, except for his appendix health).

I guess I’m disappointed because we need point guard play more than ever. This may be the most open back court that Bliss will ever see in his college career. It’s not like we have three great point-guards. We have zero great point guards. It’s the perfect time for him to step up, but I guess eligibility and NIL trump team team loyalty.

I hate this era. Suck it up Christian- this may be your best shot at playing at a bonafide school.

As always- I hope the best for the kid but this seems exceptionally “soft” to me.

Thought he was a dawg in Peach Jam…
Turns out he’s just a lapdog for an old lady kinda dog.

So are we assuming he’s going to transfer? Saving this year so he has more time elsewhere?

Agreed. Bliss is being a bitch. I really hope he is not on the team next year. He would bring nothing but only add to a set of average athletic 6’4 guards that we have way to many of right now.
Even if Warley stayed, this team has so many deficiencies. Not one if the guards brings a different skillset to the table. They are all the same player.
I can’t wait for a new coach who values size and athleticism. Instead of a coach trying to recruit the next Joe Harris and Ty Jerome. Guess what coaches. You got lucky w those guys. And mckneely, Rohde, Bliss, Murray and Sharma ain’t it. The staff has done such a poor job of recruiting and evaluating players since 2016. That’s the last class that as a whole meant something.

Bliss is pretty good. Even @HoozGotNext is believer.

This season is a lost cause anyway. Why waste a season of eligibility when you are behind from an injury.

Dude was dropping like 25-30pts a game vs every dmv school he played and of course the first team peach jam (which is solid. Tj power never played in peach jam). Screams Villanova pg under Jay Wright

Its all moot when Capel flips Dixon, gets back Mallory, and brings Jaland Lowe whose 3pt shot drop off will cause NBA teams to back off

What if Tony knew the kid was opting out (and keeping this year’s cash) just prior to the scrimmages and season - could that have been one of the final straws? I think we all thought Bliss was “day to day” at that point right?

So Christian Bliss cost us Tony Bennett. Okay, you convinced me

I try to stay relatively even on this stuff since I write so much about the team - but the irrational Bliss hopes were always off-putting to me.

Give me irrational Gertrude hopes over irrational Bliss hopes 10 out of 10 times.

An LRA lesson as old as time- we are collectively very bad at scouting/projecting forward :joy:

Predicting the future is hard, just like predicting Bliss’s future from here is hard.

Nonzero chance he plays here at some point, don’t forget.
