Yeah. And I think B/M seems to be coupled with an emphasis on getting transition points. So itās not just the half court system.
Virginia through Dec 31 (160th offense, 67th defense)
Through Jan 19 (200th offense, 82nd defense)
From Jan 19 to present (30th offense, 166th defense)
Jekyll and Hyde
How you run the offense and personnel are as important if not more than the offense itself.
The best offense in the country this year is a base flex offense which has been around for as long as sides.
Yep, exactly.

Iāve always kind of felt that people donāt like Blocker Mover because it has a stupid name.
You might be onto something.
But the reason I donāt like it is because itās too predictable and it limits freedom of choice offensively for the bigs. Blockers gonna block, so you have nailed 2 of your 5 offensive players into a predictable (and non-threatening) role.
I think the limitations are why (I heard) many players complained about it during exit interviews in at least one year. A skilled big is going to be interested in doing more with his offensive skillset than setting screens.
OTOH, itās predictable. So itās easier to teach young players who get confused with complex read and react schemes that are dependent on chemistry, basketball IQ, and shared floor vision (seeing the same thing to predict a team-mateās cut to the basket). Tony (or Harris) once called it āputting the offense on railsā ā actions are predictable, but efficient.
And, to be fair, it is a stupid name.
Depends. When youāre running the sides variant, itās a two-man game on the weak side, and the big sets a screen and usually rolls to the basket.
Our four bigs are finding ways to score since we went back to B/M.
Yeah, maybe not āskilled,ā but this board has been bitching about Bennettās love affair with skilled bigs (read: stretch 4s and 5s) since the 2021 season.
For whatever reason, the offense has been better with Cofie, Buchanan, and Robinson getting the big minutes.
But how many pocket passes for dunks have we had over the last 16 years?
I think the offense has a number of reads and counters to react to what the defense is doing and it comes down to correctly choosing the counter and executing the shots. I wouldnāt mind if we ran B/M the rest of my life as long as we have the right guys.
Why has the D fallen off? The better O guys are plying and they stink at D? I donāt think thatās supported by our minutes distribution or the eye test.
Maybe itās the extra O rebounding (as much as people always beg for it and it might be right, itās not without its trade offs.) Maybe itās guys leaking out in transition. We see the dunks but we donāt see the missed DR costing us points. Anyone have a theory here
I think our discussions really over-value scheme and under-value execution.
I donāt think our scheme was the problem early in the season. I think itās that no one knew what they were doing. The players were not just inexperienced but unfamilar with each other. Our rotation wasnāt set, players didnāt know where they should be or what they should be doing, no one was comfortable or confident enough to be aggressive.
Now things look like theyāre clicking for some guys. Our execution is sharper. Weāre more willing to attack. We still have holes on the team, but at least the guys who are there are playing closer to their potential.
During the last 8 or so mins when we were clearly trying to eat a little clock, was surprised that Dai bought into that so well. He is aggressive by nature
Problem with the D is we are usually outmanned offense to defense at every position (against the better teams). Its pretty simple really
Like Fresh says, the problem with our defense is pretty simple: We donāt have very good defensive players. I think weāve got some solid ones (Blake, Rohde, Taine) and some with potential (Cofie, ARob), and weāre finally starting to play more like a cohesive unit. But weāre never going to be as tight as we were when players spent four years together, and we donāt have a Dre or a Braxton or a Reece or a Dunn to neutralize the other teamās best players.
Looking at you, Gertrude.
In those 6 games, the defensive ranks of the teams we played was (per KenPom):
- 232 / 124 / 342 / 187 / 81 / 90
In our 6 upcoming games:
- 187 / 4 / 52 / 28 / 42 / 56
The key will be trying to keep our offensive momentum against better defenses. Then weāll get a reprieve again v Cuse (148).
Can someone please tell me thereās at least a decent chance that X stays next season? Like he loves Cville or has a serious girlfriend or something?
Yes. Very good chance X stays

New @Cuts_from_The_Corner coming. Ron has reached step 1 of many in his road back: bring Cuts out of retirement
Looking at the AP poll this week- we knew our noncon was tough, but yikes was it brutal for this kind of group. Lost @ 3 Florida, 5 Tennessee, 9 St Johnās, 14 Memphis.
