Hofstra pitcher has done a good job of getting us off our timing and making us chase his offspeed pitches. Lots of rockets hit foul because we’re early, and lots of check swings.

I feel like a dude with a 87 mph flat fastball(was 89 in the 1/2 innings) shouldn’t do that. Good slider but it’s sitting 81/83. Credit to him making UVA chase tho :man_shrugging:t2:

Idk what it is but we’ve historically struggled against soft tossing righties who throw junk. As elite of a hitting coach KMac is that’s always remained one of our kryptonites.

Hopefully we can work our way into their bullpen.

  • GOF bloops a single into shallow RCF. Becker got a good jump and goes 1st to 3rd. Runners on the corners, no outs now for Stephan.
  • Hofstra making a pitching change, thank god. LHP Matt Haggerty coming into the game.
  • Stephan on a full count rips a liner to right. The RFer goes into a dive but can only catch it on a hop. Becker scores from 3rd, 4-2 Hofstra. Runners on 1st and 2nd, no outs for Anderson.
  • Anderson walks on four pitches. Bases loaded, no outs for 1st year Henry Ford.
  • Another pitching change for Hofstra. RHP Penn Sealey comes into the game.
  • Ford grounds one up the middle for an RBI base hit. Two runs score, game is tied at 4. Anderson moves up to 3rd, runners at the corners and no outs now for Saucke.
  • Saucke lines out to LF. It’s deep enough to score Anderson from 3rd, HOOS lead 5-4. Runner at 1st, one out for Didawick.
  • Didawick blasts one to CF just left of the blue monster for the 2nd UVA HR of the day. HOOS lead 7-4. Nobody on, one out for Ference.
  • Ference hits a dribbler to the 3rd baseman who makes the throw on the move for out #2. Two outs for Godbout.
  • Another chopper to 3rd to end the inning.

Heading into the 7th inning, HOOS lead 7-4 after a 6 run 6th. Needed that.

  • Palmer lines one up the middle for his 4th hit of the day. Dude is good.

  • Kennedy rips a double off the LF wall. Palmer scores from 2nd, 7-5 HOOS. Runners on 2nd and 3rd, no outs for Harrington.
  • Harrington walks on a full count, and a run scores on a wild pitch. 7-6 HOOS. Runners on the corners, no outs for McCoy.
  • Mound visit for the Hoos. Jaxel staying in for now.
  • Jaxel gets a K (3) looking on three pitches. Runners on the corners, one out.
  • Lane grounds into a 5-4-3 double play to end the frame. HUGE to get out of that with no further damage.

7th inning stretch time, HOOS lead 7-6. Becker to lead off for the second straight time.

  • Becker on the first pitch rips one out to LF, but it dies just before the warning track. One out for GOF.
  • GOF is HBP. One on, one out for Stephan.
  • Stephan is also HBP. 1st and 2nd, one out for Anderson.
  • Anderson on the first pitch grounds into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.

Heading into the 8th, HOOS still lead 7-6.

Whoops mistaken, Jaxel still in the game. Position changes, Bobby Whalen comes in to play CF and Didawick moves to LF.

  • First pitch is sent into the LF bleachers by Pelcher. Tie game.
  • Camera pops up to Whalen in shallow CF. One out.
  • Florides pops out to GOF in shallow CF. Two outs.
  • Mound visit. LHP Blake Barker coming into the game for the HOOS. He’s a DII transfer from Seton Hill college.
  • Palmer chops one to 3rd. Becker fields it and makes a strong throw to finally retire Palmer for out #3.

Bottom of the 8th, game is tied at 7. Ford to lead off for the HOOS.

  • Saucke on a full count works a walk. 1st and 2nd, no outs now for Didawick. Casey JUST missed an extra base hit down the line.
  • Mound visit for Hofstra. They make a pitching change, RHP Mike McKenna comes into the game.
  • Didawick lays down a bunt. It’s grounded back to McKenna who throws over for the out at 3rd. Runners on 1st and 2nd, one out for Ference.
  • Wild pitch moves both runners up a base. Accomplishes what the sac bunt would have done.
  • Ference gets to a 3 ball count and then is intentionally walked. Bases loaded, one out for Godbout.
  • Another mound visit.
  • Wild pitch scores a run. 8-7 HOOS. Still runners on 2nd and 3rd, one out for Godbout.
  • Godbout on a full count walks. Bases loaded, one out for Becker.
  • Another wild pitch scores a run. 9-7 HOOS. 2nd and 3rd, one out for Becker. 3-0 count.
  • Becker walks on four pitches. Bases loaded again, one out for GOF.
  • GOF K’s looking on three pitches. Bases loaded, two outs for Whalen.
  • Fourth wild pitch of the inning scores a third run. 10-7 HOOS. 2nd and 3rd, two outs now for Whalen.

  • Base hit into RF from McCoy scores a run. 10-8 HOOS. Runners now at the corners, one out.
  • McCoy steals 2nd. 2nd and 3rd now for Lane, one out.
  • Lane on a full count K’s (1) swinging. 2nd and 3rd, two outs for Pelcher.
  • Pelcher K’s (2) swinging on three pitches to end it!!!

HOOS win the season opener 10-8, wasn’t pretty but a W counts all the same.
