Didnāt the Miami mega donor fall on hard times? I thought I saw the money was drying up
No idea but Im sure Miami has other big time donors.
Surely thereās a tipping point when it comes to how many guys you need to get from the portal. Needing to find 3 guys from the portal seems about the right amount. It means you have enough of a remaining roster to build upon, thereās more cohesion and an existing playing style, but yet still room to sell potential playing time. And you can be more strategic with your NIL.
When you start needing to fill 7 spots, thatās when it becomes a crap shoot. Thereās plenty of playing time to go around, but less NIL. And with such high turnover, coaches canāt sell potential when thereās so much unknown.
Iām not envious of a program losing 7 of its top 8 rotational players. We arenāt built to reload our entire roster through the portal and neither are they
I agree with you and that kind of turnover is definitely not a situation you want to be in year after year. But having multiple open slots and filling them correctly ia an opportunity to get your program healthy in a hurry.
With where we are at present, give me 4-5 openings this spring as opposed to 1-2 and Iād take it for sure.
I certainly wish that werenāt the case but sadly as it relates to having any success next season it is. We have major roster flaws that need to be addressed.
Rebuilding through the portal? One word: ARKANSAS.
No chance VT upgrades over Pedulla and Kidd. In addition to no chance of upgrading over Cattoor. They will get worse at 3 starting spots and probably about the same at the 2 other spots. Will be terrible next season
As frustrating as Dunnās offense was, as bad as it was at points, he actually improved markerdly from his freshman year.
Most of the numbers are the same, but the key is his minutes more than doubled and his usage in those minutes went up by a 1/3. If you can do that and maintain efficiency, that is a big win.
Imagine he came back and made a similar jump. Heād be looking at playing maybe 80% of minutes, a usage of maybe 20-22% and maintaining that 111 ORtg, maybe jumping it to 115-125 if he fixes the yips in his FT and 3s. To me, itās a very plausible jump for a guy with his physical gifts. I DEFINITELY hope he comes back.
They realized they were in Blacksburg?
Whatās the difference between DUDES and DAWGS?
Dudes = defensive-minded forwards with good length and toughness
Dawgs = shot-creating guards
Basically what Houston (and in a slightly different way, Iowa St this season) does. SDSU too?
Best explanation I heard of this allegedly came from Bob Huggins a long time ago. I want to say it was Dinos Trigonis, a west coast AAU event organizer, who told the story. Huggins walked in and Dinos asked What you looking for Hugs? Hugs said I need a MFing dude. What does that mean?
Huggins explanation was something along the line of a dude is a physical freakā¦when you see him, you say dude! A MFer (close enough to a dawg) is a guy who makes tough plays, hits big shotsā¦leaves the opposing coach yelling mother fer.
Thatās whatās the NBA is thinking too. Sounds like someone will get a steal around 15-25 area.
Probably safe to assume Louisville bound here
Yeah I assume Dunn is gone, and Iāve seen a lot of logical arguments that he should go. I havenāt heard from him (or anyone passing along reports from his camp though), and not all decisions in life are logical though, so I hold out hope. Iām holding out hope for a Reece return too
They are worse than us NIL and horrendous facilities and middle of nowhere. They are not that attractive an opportunity no matter how many openings they have.
DUDE + DAWG = BAD MAN
re: that, the comment iāve seen online a bit is that they are VERY worried about where they land re: conference realignment, and feel (probably correctly) that it will be exclusively tied to their perception as a football brand/power.
so i think there has been a concerted effort to funnel ALL resources that way (even moreso than in years past) - specifically re: NIL.
Basically when Brooks left there were some that seemed to be in the know saying āthis really sucks but we know why and itās what we have to do to remain viable for the next 10 yearsā. Which is wild b/c it also means if they fail there, theyāve torpedoed everything in the process.
(not really sure what āfailā would be, i canāt imagine a scenario where they are not welcomed to at least the Big 12)
Maybe itās just me, but my definition of dude is a guy who WANTS to be on the FT line down 1, on the road, with 2 seconds left. Not someone looking scared to death to be there, and canāt wait for the moment to be over.
