What was Enfieldās buyout? Because on first glance, going from USC to SMU feels like USC went to him and said āWe donāt want to pay the buyout but you need to go find a new job.ā

Iām not worried. Blacksburg is a dead end town for hoops. The facilities are awful. The fans barely care. And the icing on the cake is now that donors are apparently pulling NIL funding to give it to football instead. No in-demand coach is going to sign up for that. And any young coach they do get to sign up for the job (I mean, it pays seven figures, someone will do it), if he does well, will just leave for an SEC job first chance he gets.
Frankly, Iād more likely wager he quits, thinking heās too old to have to deal with a total ground-up roster rebuild this deep into his tenure.

You nailed it. Theyāre a perpetual stepping stone. I actually think with MY style of play they are more of a pain for us because the only time theyāre relevant to anything is if they upset us.
Iād much rather they continue to be a revolving door. The odds of them making good hires even semi consistently is probably slim. For all the reasons you mentioned.

Iām envious of all of Techās departures. It presents them with an opportunity to get better. Whether they do or not remains to be seen. But they will certainly have the opportunity.
So we can laugh at Tech all we want right now, but if we donāt get some guys moving down the road and upgrade those roster spots through the portal, weāre going to be a middle of the pack ACC team at best next year. What we have coming back/coming in wonāt be competitive.
