Maybe visit C’ville?

Probably Gonzaga. Right?

I feel like we could sell him even with Christian Bliss. Basically as a Devon Hall. Sometimes point, sometimes off-ball scorer. But he probably will have many more suitors now during portal szn.

It would definitely lower our ceiling for next year but would be a sick backcourt in 2025-2026: Perry, Bliss, Gertrude, iMac.

His HS visits were:

Oregon
Stanford
St. Mary’s
TCU
Vandy

Canceled UVA visit following Bliss commitment

Yeah but things change and the pitch should change, especially if they don’t feel comfortable with Bliss at the 1 next year and how we value multiple ball handlers.

That’s a failure on the staff issuing their pitch if they can’t show that Perry would be a day 1 starter for us and how he and Bliss can co-exist like Perrantes Brogdon Hall or Kihei Jerome Guy

Gonzaga mod said they will heavily pursue but they can’t offer what made USC enticing: being “the guy” day 1/their pitch would be him taking over in 2025-2026.

I say this begrudgingly as the #1 Trent Perry fan on this board, while I would be extremely excited if we were able to get back in the race/add him to our roster in the short term he’s not really what we need next year. Asking a true freshman like him who is more of a combo guard than a pure PG to come in and take the keys day one would be quite the risk as opposed to landing a veteran PG in the portal who has a proven history of running an offense at the DI level.

If we had more spots open I would be saying go full send on him all day. I mean I was advocating to take both he and Bliss when we were initially recruiting them and in hindsight wish even moreso we did that (no offense to Sharma). But now that we have more pressing immediate needs it just doesn’t make as much sense. Pains me to say it.

But then again fuck all that, GO GET HIM TONY.

stares intensely at Dante and Rohde

Yeah Im okay with the risk of a freshman pg

Well you would preferably want to add one who has a proven history of being a quality shooter at the DI level too, not somebody like Dante who put up horrible % but was able to justify it to the staff with a miracle conference tourney run.

Yeah this would be a move to maximize potential in 25-26 and let the young guards figure it out and take their lumps in 24/25

100% agree. Just providing a nugget

Still scratching my head at why the staff prioritized Rohde over Blue Cain last year. Roster would look and feel much different right now with Cain instead Rohde…now trying to fill a hole where Cain would have been the solution.

Cause hindsight. Rohde was a 19ppg scorer or whatever. There were some who preferred Blue Cain at the time (I know @Hoohoohoo was one) but it wasn’t a clear slam dunk. Even now Blue Cain is only a 41% fg 7ppg scorer for a pretty meh Georgia team, wouldn’t really be the solution we are looking for but is better than what Rohde and Dante gave us for sure.

Edit: that being said guys like Trent Perry or Christian Anderson Jr are more what we are looking for. Really hate that we don’t have the roster flexibility to take one of them AND a veteran 1 year guard who could be the third guard for us on top of Maliq Brown and a jumbo shooting wing who can play the 3 or 4 like Tucker Anderson.

Worst year (when we need to rebuild the roster and get it healthy and appropriately spaced out) to have a lot of the roster dedicated to non-immediate impact veterans

I was a Blue Cain stan for sure. But I think I thought even Rohde was the better pick in terms of roster fit.

Didn’t like the idea of running out three guards under 6’3” like we had the year prior.

Now, hindsight would probably take Blue > Rohde.

Reece’s return being unknown was more of a factor than the staff not prioritizing Cain. They wanted both and Rohde just happened to commit first.

That was my recollection- not so much prioritizing Rohde as being sorta neutral.
