🏀 2024 Basketball Transfer Portal - Portal Kombat! Fight!

Would it be right to think of Perry (or Anderson for that matter) as moving up the 2025 guard to 2024? You’re only taking someone who can play with Bliss, right

Don’t get me wrong, I really want him to. I also like him as a player and think he will contribute for us down the road. Just frustrating for near term problems.

No thank you, for love of God

I would take Anderson Jr or Perry over Mallory pretty easily. Of course Im assuming Perry goes to Gonzaga and Anderson Jr returns to Michigan (Dusty May working hard to get him recommitted to Michigan) and that we have an uphill battle to climb for either.

But both work so well in terms of fitting with Bliss at the 1-2. Save the pure catch and shooting for the three spot.

(also in thinking of all this I recall all my thoughts about how Gertrude fits into the equation of past great UVA teams. Not a pg or a shooter, but if he can develop skillets in either he could be deadly deadly)

it was a good assumption to make at the time.

  1. What percentage of teams don’t lose a transfer this season?

  2. Didn’t foresee Bliss’s ankle

  3. Didn’t foresee Rohde not hitting as quickly.

I don’t really understand the takeaway of the Sharma situation in this light. It was the right move at the time (and still might be!)

For sure, don’t disagree. It’s just a slight bummer due to the reasons you mentioned before. I don’t blame anymore, but it does kind of stink.

It’s a flier cause Tony only went to go watch him once at the end. Not fully evaluate him through the summer.

In those situations you are probably better served saving scholarships for the spring where coaching changes, decommits, and transfer portal have kids becoming available that staff may have actually evaluated in the past.

Sharma could be Maple Klay for all I know but it was definitely a flier/risk, and the staff’s portal activity for a shooting wing/forward align with that. Who knows how it shakes out once everyone steps on grounds. Did we imagine Kihei would be a first year starter for us?

And there’s a very real chance of that happening if we continue to run B/M. He fits that offense extremely well for better or worse.

That Terry contact list… not a recruitment UVA usually wins.

The only highlight of the Portal season so far has been apparently NOT contacting Jamie Kaiser.

It’s literally Isaac Traudt’s list

:boomerang: he started there right?

Yeah but with Alabama.

A bummer in the very immediate context without clarity on Dante and Dunn - totally agree.

But i just don’t know what is the takeaway? Never take fliers because we may be one of 10 teams to not lose a transfer? That could burn us later in real ways. So I dunno.

I just don’t see much to take away from this weird situation at this point, and without seeing how Sharma looks.

I’ve heard from lots of sources that CTB is VERY honest in post season meetings. Assuming true, I really don’t understand why we haven’t had at least 1 transfer out

What do you see as Sharmas ceiling? Because the other problem is that most of Sharmas outcomes are attainable in the portal anyways

Guys it’s pretty obvious Dante and Rohde are the reason we don’t have roster flexibility not Sharma lol not like we have 4 incoming recruits. We have 2. If Dante or Rohde were anywhere close to ACC level last season this wouldn’t even be a discussion

“If things just worked out there wouldn’t be any problems.”

Well yeah of course. But things don’t work out all the time. And because Sharma is an incoming recruit he technically plugs up four years of this scholarship (if not five). So the likelihood of something not going right during those four years is actually pretty high

Why would Dante Harris give up what he’s getting here money wise to go be the starting point guard at Tennessee State, where his NIL deal would probably be a monthly McDonald’s gif card.

Honest isn’t going to do it anymore in the NIL age. You’re going to have to straight up run guys off. As someone posted earlier in a Fran Fraschilla tweet, and I’m paraphrasing, “a lot of the guys who are in the portal got fired.”
