šŸ—ŗ 2024 Conference Realignment thread

I think I caused us to go on this tangent. I asked how important you viewed parity and the ability of any team to win in any given season and pointed out the lack of parity in European soccer leagues. American sports leagues definitely favor the appearance of parity with the draft of entry level players and standings based scheduling and salary limits.

The true difference if you pull back the covers between American sports leagues and their European counterparts is whether you want to run a closed system Franchise model or an open system Club model. To fix them is apples and oranges.

Nah, I think the biggest difference is how the winner is decided. The results of a season long double round robin or a condensed bracket style playoff?

But now we are talking about American football and actual footballā€¦ canā€™t do American football home/home round robin. This is a product of safetyā€¦ and if we go to other sportsā€¦ we are back to the Franchise model that doesnā€™t limit the amount of teams in the leagues, so the round robin doesnā€™t work.

Unbalanced schedules are dumb outside of the NFL.

Actual football and American football are the same thing.

Soccer sucks ass.

I wasnā€™t saying import the double round robin. I was just saying the biggest difference, even bigger than promotion/relegation, is how a champion is determined.

Fellow Fulham fan (albeit in Henry County, not London).2008? Danny Murphy scored at Fratton Park to ensure Fulhamā€™s survival. McBride did score the opener in the match before against Birmingham (among many huge goals). The most remarkable win was the week prior to that when they came back from 0-2 to win at Man City.

Yeahā€¦ I was fuzzy on whether that header was Murphy or McBride and I just took a stab at it instead of looking it up. Haha! Oops.

Glad they got Willian back for the rest of the season since Harry Wilson is out.

Really was hoping the rumours about Dusan Jovanovic wouldā€™ve come to fruitionā€¦ then they couldā€™ve let Raul leave in the summer.

It took me 10 minutes to like that. In the spirit of the post, I faked a thumb injury and writhed around on the ground in fake agonizing pain before a miraculous healing when I jumped up, liked the post, and went on about my business.

The only sport where a little fella of 5ā€™6 can be the best. Itā€™s egalitarian ā€” Iā€™ll give it that much.

Incisive and well reasoned comment.

Interesting cultural dichotomy. In the highly egalitarian social democracies of Europe, their sports leagues are cutthroat laissez faire capitalism (with the possibly egalitarian but unknown effects of FFP), while in the highly capitalist US system, the sports leagues are run on a more socialist, egalitarian model.

Interesting juxtaposition.

And your contributions since then are invaluable. I mean, really, itā€™s hard to assign a value to your contribution. Almost impossible.

Playing to the lowest common denominator. But football is objectively a better, more exciting sport overall.

I absolutely agree. Unless you meant American football.

Playing to the lowest common denominator.

I have no idea what you mean by this comment.

Completely agree. Football is obviously better than football, and only a fool would think otherwise.

Inquiring minds want to knowā€¦.?

I kinda hate it. Giving them concessions isnā€™t going to make them want to stay long term, and now they have a number to get out and shorter time locked up.

I also get that ratings are what really matter, but I think its sort of chickenshit to do things based on ratings. An equation with standings by sport would roughly equate to it (except 2024 Florida State lol) and be way more respectable.
