Interesting range of comments from the ESPN article.
Jim Phillips: ânext chapter,â âlong-term future,â âpremier conference,â etc. I read this as trying to sound positive about something that seems only to hasten the ACCâs demise.
Clemson AD Graham Neff: âThe ACC is an excellent fit for Clemsonâ FOR NOW.
FSU AD Michael Alford: âthis really incentivizes everyone in our conference to have the opportunity to go out and choose a path.â I.e., see you wouldnât wanna be you.
I think this sets up any school with a P2 invite to leave as soon as 2029 when the BIG contract is up and certainly by 2030. Leaving in 2030 costs 93 mil and 2029 is 111 mil, which is 3-5 years of revenue increase. Find a way to finance it at an acceptably low interest rate and youâre ahead of the game.
Paul Finebaum says UNC and UVA would be the top two targets of the SEC. Could this be the reason why UVA is suddenly pouring money into football? Like UNC is suddenly doing also?
I have generally preferred the SEC option with its geographic continuity and I think the product on the court, field, diamond is better. That said the Big 10 would be an easier place to find a foothold and be competitive. If UVa went to the SEC you have to be willing to color outside the lines. Like that final scene in the Godfather, UVa has to ask are you comfortable with what goes on behind that door
