Mostly fine ranking, but the Cavman they ranked as a C needs to be moved up at least one grade, if not two.
And one of my most unpopular takes is that I secretly love the mysterious Cavman that everyone hates. But itās probably because he reminds me of this guy from The Simpsons:
Well, I am an old fart. My favorite logo isnāt shown. There was a time when the Universityās seal was to be found on sweatshirts, beer steins, playing cards, etc. Back in the day when 6 hrs of phys ed were required (in the college), the seal was on both the gym shirt and gym shorts. And, I have never liked the sabres. Among other things, cavaliers never carried sabres. That particular bladed cavalry weapon wasnāt introduced into Europe (probably through Hungary) until sometime in the first half of the 18th century which was long after the Stuarts were removed from the throne, and the cavalier period was over by then. Depicting Virginiaās sports teams with claymores would be as accurate.
And about the new title: āI told them, āHey, just name the position, Whatever Tony Bennett Tells Me To Do .ā We came up with this, which is a little more professional. Whatever they need is what I will do.ā
I also remember Mike Cubbage at Lane HS and later UVa. He was a local hero. I also followed him in the majors. Some trivia- he hit a HR in his last career at bat (Mets).
Agreed. If memory serves the same company that designed the Cavaliers logo on the C line was the same design firm that designed the University of Virginia logo on the D line (both should be Fās). Funny story about those. I used to work at another D1 school 24 years ago and we had that same design firm (I forget the name) come in to present to us as we were in process of rebranding our logo. I asked them about their UVA rebranding and the dude was on bitter beach about how theirs got pushed aside for the V-Sabre. He just threw shade at UVA during his presentation. Sux to suck bro!
The B lineup probably wasnāt one Iād have rolled with full time, but I really wish weād have played around with it some. I also think that group with Blake instead of Minor couldāve generated some points in the press.
@AdventiveQuasar whats that on-off site?. Iām definitely in offseason formā¦
(Donāt look in the replies if you donāt want my abridged thoughts on this prior to a discussion here).
But, interestingly, neither of those two lineups saw even 5 possessions together last year. I wasnāt surprised by lineup B, but Iād have assumed Lineup A did. Nope. It was always Rohde instead of Taine with that group.
Iāve got lineup A at 22 total possessions, high water mark of 5 v CSU. Lineup B never played together. Bond, Gertrude, and Dunn played a whopping 5 possessions together, but in those possessions we averaged 2 pts per possession and conceded only 0.8 points per possession.
Thatās a robust enough sample for me to declare that we had the best ever offensive and defensive lineups known to man mostly sitting on our bench. Oh well.
@jphat007 incorrect. That lineup wouldāve scored 120 points vs CSU. Unless they put that ski bum looking dude on Bond to shut him down.
